Law degree followed by PGCE

Hey guys,

I'm currently in my second year of a law degree. I've always wanted to be a teacher but had a bit of a life crisis when choosing what to do at uni.

Anyway, I really want to do a primary PGCE after my degree. Is this possible? Or do I need a national curriculum subject as my degree. I really want to teach in a primary school rather than a secondary school. Any advice on anything related to this would help! Such as when to apply etc. From what I've read it seems to be october the year before you intend to start.
So long as you've got maths, English and science GCSE at grade C or above you should be fine to do Primary PGCE. I think you can sometimes specialise in a particular subject for primary PGCEs maybe you'll be able to do that, I'm not sure. Have a look at the different courses available and see what they all require. Everywhere will be different, but there will be many courses you'll be able to apply for.

Good luck

omg I am kind of in the same situation as you, except i'm in the last year of college so I have already applied to uni..for law! and I'm happy, I want to do law, but I would love to teach as well, So if when I'm at uni..I decide I don't want to be a solicitor, would I be able to go into secondary/6th form teaching?? as I don't want to do primary! Also i'm a bit apprehensive, as I know not many secondary schools do law, or am I wrong? as my school/6thform don't do it.

Sorry for hijacking the thread...but need some help!

I'm in my final year of Law LLB at KCL and have just been offered a place on a Primary PGCE at Uni of Bedfordshire!

I decided in my second year that although I enjoyed law academically the more I found out about the realities of a career in law it just wasn't going to work for me.

I terms of experience I'd worked for nearly three years at a children's museum as a weekend job but I also did two one week long placements at two different primary schools. From October onwards I did one morning a week in at a school.

Good luck to everyone!

I can only agree with what has been said beforehand. A Primary PGCE should not be a problem at all, not sure about secondary though.
I can fully relate to this situation, I’m not particularly interested in law and I only chose it because of it’s good career prospects and because of the fact it’ll open up to many options. Like you people I only chose it because nothing else fascinates and I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do in the future.

Am not entirely enthusiastic on becoming a solicitor or a barrister but I would love to become a teacher either in a primary school or in a sixth form.
