Topic: France in Revolution 1789-1830

I thought I'd start this thread to discuss how you're revising and share any tips for either part (A) or (B).

Does anyone have any idea on what possible questions could come up?

Thanks!

What was the most important reason for the failure of the Constitutional Monarchy in France in 1792?

Some people say War and others say Flight to Varennes. I'm confused

Both factors are important contributors to the failure of the Constitutional Monarchy in 1792.

The Flight to Varennes revealed Louis' true feelings, fueled republicanism from Robespierre and the Jacobins and created distrust towards the regime. It was clear Louis was a traitor due to the letter he left behind believing the Constitution to be unable to work.

The European War angered the French as they viewed it as foreign intervention. The Brunswick Manifesto exacerbated these matters, even though Louis did warn Brunswick it was not enough.

Other factors such as the economy, divisions within the Constituent Assembly, etc. are also important and they link in some way.

I would say both factors are important, what you argue is up to you, but it needs to be backed up and analysed well.
