It's not neccesarily stupid as they probably have the qualities you like in a person so trying to find a similar person is understandable. When my ex broke up with me I wanted to find someone like him as he protected me and treated me better than anyone else ever has. but then realised thats not fair on the person as I shoudn't be comparing, plus most of the guys I meet are completely diff from my ex anyway

I think it's fine if you are sure you actually like the new person that you are with. Like Monkey Maiden said it is only natural for most people to have a "type" with similar characteristics. So it's not strictly a bad thing

I do think though that it's important to ensure that this person is not merely a replacement for your ex so you are using them almost as a form of compensation for losing someone you really like. This is not only unfair on the new person but also will ultimately lead to trouble as however much you wish they will never be your ex.
I didn't think John (current bf) was anything like my ex until I realised that they both do weird random things like saying stupid words like 'banana dog biscuits' and walking into things on purpose or pretending to be in space/a pirate/in the army. Hehe. I didn't know John did this stuff when we started seeing eachother though. He's totally unlike the ex in looks and most things, and I'm glad

John sounds strange.
oh that wasn't all stuff he did! The examples were a combination of the two people. However maybe the type of people I go for is 'strange!' Or just fun maybe.

Say you broke up with someone and realise that despite your attempts to move on, you're only trying to look for a replacement: same look, same nationality, same job etc...

Have you found yourself in a similar situation? Is it necessarily a bad thing?

I always go for opposites. The thought of being with clones doesnt interest me.

i would of thought it would be a bad thing cos then wont you always be reminded of your ex?
