how do you know you def have one unless you go to the doctor? i appear to get bladder infections quite often - it'll only be when im being tested for something else that i'll know about it!
they'll just ask for a sample of your wee.
but you should just drink lots of cranberry juice and water...

If it is bothering you, and you are uncomfortable seeing a male doc, just got to a local walk-in centre of a&e. You will probably have to wait for ages, but that's the price you pay for being a prude

TBH though, like Fleece says, it only should involve a chat and them taking a urine sample (and perhaps some blood), unless it's more serious, so theres nothing to be ambarrased about - it's not like you will have to undergo an intimate examination (which you could always refuse anyway if you are uncomfortable with it).
I had one, and had to go see a male doctor. I did feel a little embaressed, but you just say 'I think I have a bladder (or in my case, kidney infection) because.... (list symptoms)' and then he'll tell you to go the bathroom and pee in a little pot. (more difficult that it seems!) then the doctor tests it with what appears to be a strip of litmus paper, and says 'yes, you do have a kidney infection.' and then he gives you a prescription for antibiotics.

Literally that's it - 10 minutes absolutely maximum. You should go, as it takes longer for your body to fight the infection without antibiotics, and you will probably get worse, and be in considerable pain, before it gets better.
it is definately worth the embarassement of going to the doctor!!! I had one a couple of months ago and I was in agony until I went. He just took a urine sample, tested it and then gave me one pill which worked after a couple of hours!
If you are getting them quite often, you could always ask your doctor to give you a pot of those little strips of paper (they look like litmus paper) and then you can do the test yourself at home! That way you're settled in a couple of minutes and know exactly what to do!

Comeon girl, don't be silly. THis si nothing to do with having a male doctor really. fact is that you are talking about a part of yourself that you like everyone else takes for granted and so never discuss. thus when it goes wrong you feel embarrased.
plus the idea of someone having to manhandle a container full of your pee probably is just awful!

but like you say, they see it time and time again. all they need to do is get that urine, put in the dipstick and it basically says if theres anything in the urine which shouldn't be.

one prescription later, and you are on your way to pain free weeing.

Yeah you def should go - I had it really bad once when I was younger, where I was passing blood and only blood, in excruciating pain. Went to the docs who said I had a kidney infection and gave me antibiotics, however it kept recurring so I had to go back a lot and have blood tests etc.
Are there really no female doctors whatsoever at your surgery? That seems very odd - I mean, quite a lot of people (women, obv) request that they will only see a female doctor. But if there seriously are none, you should still go, as you might need antibiotics for a kidney infection. Good luck!
