Pretty good for a state school

i am actually already in the school and we only require 2as and 4bs. i just wanted to know people who are interested in coming to the school. Names as we will probably meet next year
It gets very good results and I think it's considered pretty prestigious. I'm actually currently at Nonsuch, but I know people who know people who go to Tiffin's, and they've liked it and have done well. Grammar school are respected differently to private schools but their value is very definitely recognized.

Does the school you go to matter, at all, considering you achieve the same grades?
I applied to the sixth form college (tiffin boys) during gcse.
I got the grades that they asked for but i decided to stay at my school becuase i'd have to travel on the bus for 90 minutes there and back, probably more actually.

the school is very good. Tiffin girls school is ment to be one of the best in country

Tiffin girls is the one thats up there, tiffin boys is becomming more and more of an average school though, plus their uniform sucks :p: . Sutton Grammar boys> Tiffin boys , so if you're a guy your better of considering that.

ye ive applied this year for sixth form and am getting above the requirements to get into Tiffins which is like 4as 2bs or somin like dat... it would take me around 15 mins to get to tiffins by bus. Im thinking of stayin in my scool even though its score is half of tiffins, around 200 (tiffins 400) lookin at BBC's league tables.
I thought if i stay in a comprehensive scool and get around the same grades i could get in Tiffins, jus a lil more work, i would hav a higher chance of gettin into the top unis, like oxf or camb right?!? - thats wat ive been told anyway
if thers any other advantage pls tell me
Tiffin would probably send more girls to these places though, so they're better equipped to get students ready for interviews, and know what the universities are looking for in terms of Personal Statements etc. Grammar schools are considered highly desirable at Oxbridge because they get candidates who are proven to be good, but can still fill their state school requirements.

It really honestly makes no odds which school you've been to, if you achieve the same grades at any place you could have chosen. Go to the place whre you will be the happiest, most motivated, and get the best support for you - that's where you'll do well and will be most likely to 'shine' at interviews.

Don't worry, this is just a myth (and anyway application stats distinguish between Grammar, Upper, and Comprehensive schools. Oxbridge isn't the gold standard, and they select people who think in the right way for them - they're not bothered which school you went to.

mad prof can i jus ask wher u got that knowledge from?
i went to tolworth girls (left last year)

a few of my friends went to tiffin 6th form and REALLY struggled. I left tolworth with 1A*, 5As and 3Bs in my gcses and 2As and 1B in my A levels - my bro went to tiffin boys and left with 0A*s, 6As and 6Bs in his gcses and ABC in his A levels and he got the tough time!!

i suggest u dont go 2 tiffin

good luck woteva u do.

Not for university placements. Used to, but not anymore.

you must be mad to think tiffin is not a good school.

tiffin is a great school and if you look at the league tables, we have done extremely well.

I vote go to tiffin

by the way anyone who has visited the school, what did u think of it.

If you thinking about tiffin boys, the place itself is quite old and run down. But the quality of teaching is still good it right next to Kingston Centre which is always nice.

I got an offer for the 6th Form there and I decided not to go as it is not an exceptional school (granted it is very good) and I would much rather be with teachers who already know me for A Level. I also have a couple of incredibly small classes (2 people!), while at Tiffins it would have been much higher.

My advice would be to go if you want to, but look around first.

Oooo I went to Tiffin. Was pretty gd, I would reccomend it, if only for the free drinks at La Fiesta :p: (it's a panini place in the town centre.) I left, so i don't get a free coke anymore. :frown:
