No, the majority of the north east people don’t mind southerners, just southerners who look down on northerners as if they are better than them or take the view that all northerners should still be working down the mines, as long as your not like that you should be fine (although you may get the odd a*sehole who takes an unexplained dislike you, but just ignore them and you wont get any hassle).

I don't even know what a rah is.
I'm southern, and speak with a fairly posh accent, and I've been absolutely fine, not had a horrid remark once. Your northern friends will occasionaly take the piss out of your "hoity-toity" accent, but they don't mean anything by it! You just have to reply with something witty and laugh at yourself. We do sound stupid if you think about it!

On another point, my accent has got more common since being here. I even say the short 'a' like in Newcastle. It's great, I don't sound like an idiot anymore!

Hehe, there's probably more southerners here than northerners at the uni to be honest (It certainly feels like that anyhow). Us northerners do occasionally take the piss out of the southern accents but really it would be nice to speak with a bit more clarity  Someone asked me if I was Scottish the other day (wtf?) I am from the northwest.
