Heya!

All I know that the Kings course is not accredited by the IBS, which means your degree will not recognised, So if you do change your mind about medicine, biomed..... not such a good idea. UCL i'm not sure whether it is accredited,as I didnt apply there, but is it recognised as a top uni. I am also hoping to do a biomed degree and then apply for grad med.

GOOD LUCK

Kings has the best science department? It's usually the area singled out as kings weak spot. UCL is far better.

Ok, so I'm a UCL student, but whatever :P

If you want to do medicine at kings then biomed is the best route. Supposedly they give priority to their own students.

This means you will have a 30-1 chance at the Kings GEP rather than a 60-1. Seriously, choose the course you want to do at the university you prefer. If you really want to do medicine afterwards then go to UCL and drop biomed for anatomy in the first week. Anatomy is far better for medical applications than biomed, and UCL is a more impressive name to have your degree under than kings.

Whatever you do...enjoy your time in Biomed and rest assured that you will make a better doctor after it than those with just a medical degree. DO NOT go into Biomed and use every second of those three years to moan about how you didn't get into med school the first time round. I hate people like that on my course.

Don't go for either of these options! Choose ANY uni which has an IBMS accredited BMS degree and then you have a MUCH better chance of getting a job in a Path Lab at the end of the course.
Study a BMS degree which is IBMS accredited and Coterminus or Integrated and you would have to be a right **** not to get a job at the end of it!
This one at Surrey provides you with work placements in course AND picks up the course fees!

Im in kinda the same position!! I cant really choose between UCL and Kings BioMed. I like the look of both universities and courses.. can current students help??

Prof BMS - When people have offers to study Biomed at UCL or KCL they are unlikely to drop it all to go to Surrey! However, I do second what you say about the IBMS accreditation...check the courses are accredited. I believe (very possibly wrong) that KCL is and UCL isnt.

Hey guys, basically im torn between which of the 2 unis i want to study at. UCL has the better internation reputation but apparently Kings has the best science department. I want to do grad entry medicine after my biomed degree and people tell me that Kings is best for anyone wanting to do that. Could anyone give me advice on which to go for? Thanx, any help is much appreciated.

Hi i'm at KCL in the 1st year of biomed at the moment, and was also in your position last year! Although from what I know, UCL is generally regarded as slightly higher in terms of academia compared to KCL (for biomed), I opted to go to KCL as it looked like it had a better social life than UCL (obviously not the best reason to pick a uni!) and I was more impressed with the facilities of KCL (imo the guy's campus has a great mixture of modern and traditional 'period' type buildings, with a really good, recently refurbished library - UCL looked a bit dingy to me!) I also preferred the location of the Guy's campus. However I guess these are all subjective reasons!
I'm aware that neither the KCL or UCL biomed degrees are accredited, but this wasn't a problem for me because I have no intention of working in a lab. I guess if you are interested in working in that field, then neither uni would be the best for you.
In terms of applying for graduate medicine, I know that KCL has a 'dry run' procedure in the summer between year 2 and year 3, where personal statements are viewed early by the medicine admissions, and you will get guaranteed an interview, if they are impressed by your application but that's it. Speaking to some medics at kings, who did biomed beforehand, apparently the interview is quite tough, but I guess that's down to the individual....
hope this helps! x
