head rushes?

i keep getting a really weird sensation when i sit up/stand up and its horrible. ive had it for over a year now where its only happened now and again, but for the last four months it's been all the time. I get really tingly but numb lips and i loose my balance and everything goes black. ive fallen on to the ground a few times and i feel paralysed, like i cant move any of my body at all. other times i feel as if i am fighting it and all that happens is my sight goes black and i loose my balance (basically i avoid falling to the floor) its really embarassing to be getting up from the lunch table at school or my desk or where ever and have this happen. could it be a head rush? i really have no knowledge of medical stuff at all. what causes it? please, please help!

thanks!

Hey. well i'm no proffesional so don't quote me on this, but i used to have really bad headrushes from low blood pressure. it causes dizzyness and head rushes when you stand up quickly. low weight is one cause of bad headrush, not sure what the other causes are. but get yourself to a doctor asap.

no, why see a doctor 'asap', that's TSR solution for everything, all you'll be doing is wasting the GPs time.

i hate seeing the doctors though, im always scared they dont believe me! i think i might have to go, though. what did you get/do to stop yours?

I had the same problem with low blood pressure. The doctor just told me to stay active and not smoke. Sorted.

I used to get head rushes i never fainted but i'd get really dizzy when i stood up and stuff and get hot flushes, i went to the doctor for some "dizzy pills" and it went away for a while then it came back when the tablets finished but i couldnt be bothered going back because i dont like the doctors, but then they just stopped naturally.

Doctors are silly! Mine is Indian and i cannae understand a word of his diagnosis, however, in light of your problem i think the doctors is the best idea or.... failing that call up the NHS helpline!!

i dont smoke, hate it. but the prospect of staying active is scary, i just get head rushes being active. its a vicious cycle. thanks for your posts though guys, i really appreciate it.

i used to get them a few years back. They are great what are you moaning about.

they are horrible!

and sooo embarassing when you half fall across the dinner table in the lunch hall. im just fed up of it but not sure if its a medical problem or if the doctor would shun me or what. i dont know if its even a head rush. i hate the numb lips, everything. how can you say its nice?!?!! you sure we are even talking about the same thing?!!?!

Are you eating enough and at regular intervals? - low blood sugar can cause them as well as low blood pressure. Make sure you get up slowly and breathe deeply. I would go and see your doctor if they persist but it isnt an 'asap' thing.

You get them more if you have low blood pressure (I went to the doctor's yesterday and when she took my bp she asked if I got them alot because minewas quite low 84/60, then I gave blood that evening and had them a lot more for the next 24 hours!)

i think it's low blood pressure as well. I have a similar problem though not as severe, my vision becomes blurred with various mult- coloured dots and siwrls and i get quite dizzy when i get up from bed or got up after sitting somewhere for a long time. Maybe you can try eating more, especially sugary stuff and things with a lot of iron in it (eg: liver) that might help with the blood thing. But it's best to see the doc if you're not sure.

You know, you should actually request a new doc. It's no good if you cant understand a word, he might be telling you have a cold and you mistake it for cancer or something.

I think what you're getting might be postural hypotension (posh word for a drop in blood pressure when you stand up). I get it too, and I've fallen over several times cos of it - not fun! Lots of people experience it, but some have it worse than others. There are medicines and stuff which you can take, but a simple practical step I can recommend is standing up very slowly!! If that doesn't help, then you can talk to your GP and they might recommend other things.

Also, try this link for a bit more info: http://www.drdaveanddee.com/hypotension.html

I get this if I've been lying down for a long time, though all I get is sort of vision disappearing for a second or two + dizziness. I agree with the above - sounds like postural hypotension. Low bp has a number of causes. Personally, I've never found it a big problem, as it only happens every now and then, but if its a persistent problem for you you should definitely seek some sort of medical advice - it could be nothing, or it could be an indicator of an underlying problem.

i would say that i eat enough and wouldn't say i am near underweight (i'm 5foot3 and weigh 50.2kg) so i am thinking it might be low b.p.

i think ill see my doc, just to make sure all is okay.

thanks for the link, you are a star.
and thanks for the replies, too.

Hypotension / hypoglycaemic attacks.

Make sure you eat something at least every 3 hours to keep blood sugar steady, and up your salt intake.

Wow im worried now. Ive been getting those for years.

Once i got up and walked into another room and blacked out. When i came to i was lying on the floor and havnt any idea how i got there. Has happened many times.

I often dont eat/drink enough, so i've probly identified the source of the problem right there. Im also quite skinny, so that probly doesnt help.
