It is located right next to Clifton Hill House, is self-catered, and has a nice old building.

Manor Hall is great - I'm living there this year! Basically, it consists of the main building, sinclair house and some five other houses. The main hall has the bar, tv room, the library and the dining hall (where we have formals and put drama productions on). It's divided into corridors with around 18 people (although a few have less), the best views over Bristol and shared bathroom/kitchen facilities. All of the rooms are huge, and most have wooden floors and a fireplace and are very nice! Sinclair house is divided into flats of five people, and have smaller rooms but a very nice atmosphere as there are less people. The five other houses are about a minute from the main hall, and are a nice way to be involved in hall, but not be disturbed by the noise from the bar etc. Manor is self catering, and the closest hall to the uni precinct. It's a fantastic location as you can easily walk to uni, town and to clifton and the bridge.

I can't stress how nice the atmosphere is. We have formals at least once a term, which are really nice as everyone gets dressed up and we get cooked for! The music and drama in hall is definately the best out of all the halls - we do a musical in the first term and a play in the second term, and they are such a high quality. Manor certainly doesn't attract any 'rahs' that Bristol is infamous for, there are quite a lot of international students which makes a really diverse society. I really believe Manor is the hidden gem of Bristol University!

I had never heard of manor hall before applying for housing, is it under the "students house" label?

Anyway, people from Manor hall seem to be on average really, really nice. Seriously everyone i've met from there have been fantastic.

The location sounds the best and they seem to have a good time, i wouldn't want it because its self catered but i think the idea of 18 people on a floor is definitely better than the the 5 or so you would get at UH or durdham or (perhaps) goldney.

In many ways it seems like the best of the catered and self-catered worlds.

no.

Manor has 18 people staying on a floor sharing the kitchen and bathroom? Well, that's a lot of people to share with! Lets say if I'm interested to be a part of the Manor Hall community, is Sinclair House a better option?

I hear you have to pay electricity and heating bills in Sinclair House. Yikes!
The music and drama in hall is definately the best out of all the halls - we do a musical in the first term and a play in the second term, and they are such a high quality.

I don't know about that - CHH have a reputation for being the most musical hall, which is why approximately 50% of the music first years live here! We put on a musical production for the first two terms and a play for the third, as well as numerous charity concerts :P so there!

Lol but Manor Hall is very nice. The people are very friendly and like you said, it doesn't seem to attract the "rah"s. It is the closest to uni by a couple of minutes and is very well situated. If you wanted a self catered Hall then I would say that its a pretty nice bet. It's also not as over-subscribed as Goldney, so you have a much better chance of getting in!

Sinclair house is slightly cheaper than the main hall I believe and you don't have to pay for healting and electricity...however you do have to buy your own toilet roll whereas the main hall gets it provided :O
It's quite a lot smaller room wise in sinclair, especially when compared with the houses but it's still cosy and you can (fairly) comfortably sleep 3 people in there. Beds are quite small though...if you want wider beds go to Hiatt Baker but that, in my opinion anyway, is a bit of an ugly hall and prisn-like at times. By far the best hall here is Badock. We have the bar with the best atmosphere and it also has the benefit of being the cheapest! There are some truely great people here and the rooms are comfortably large, being much bigger than many people's rooms at home! It's worth considering the walk from Stoke Bishop which after about a term you can get down to 30mins but it is literally 5mins from Manor to the University Precinct and you're close to all the bars and clubs on Park Street and the Waterfront, and the ice skating rink is not too far away either. It definately has the advantage of location...but I'd still go for Badock if I was gonna stay in halls next year!

In CHH CHH has the best reputation for putting on drama and music :p:
In Wills Wills has the best reputation for putting on drama and music :p:
In Manor Manor has the best reputation for putting on drama and music :p:

etc.

Feel free to insert different hall names and attributes as you like.

Manor's sposed to be a lovely hall, i have a friend (at Badock) who's girlfriend is there and he's always over there instead of Badock, he's even told me he's more in it for the room... ouch!

Yeah and Katie, well done for bigging up Badock, though i'm glad to be moving into a house next year
