Ack, I have two painful blisters on both my feet from netball - I popped them yesterday  I know I shouldn't have!! It's a bit naughty isn't it lol, but I couldn't help it! They were just there...

*Doesn't know if she'll be well enough to turn up to the match tonight now*

To avoid blisters:

Don't pop them!
Wear plasters on your feet where your trainers or plimsoles rub your feet and wear comfy insoles.
GOOD ADVICE! Be the goalie or goal scorer, cos you don't have to run around as much as centre etc.

If you're prone to blisters get some zinc oxide tape. Then, before the match put strips tape over the areas you get blisters and it should prevent them.

*second thread today I gave real advice in*

Bit too late  I seriously COULD NOT HELP IT, last night I got my nail clipper out and all this runny liquid stuff leaked out - it was grossness

But I felt relieved. For about 3 seconds, then hurty :frown:

Goalie! Good idea, I'll message my mates now :yy: That's a fantastic idea, actually, although not sure how my team mates will react to it (I'm the skinny flighty running one you see  Usually defence).

Yeah plasters better, have just been using bandaids and they keep falling off.

ew i hate unpoped blisters, because i think they will pop when i am walking.. which is equally more horrid.
i would try and get shoes that fit better... and if you are playing netball, or any sport.. change your socks a few times.. sweat can't be good for rubbling...

Or you could just say that you went to the doctors and they said you had chronic fatigue syndrome. That way you have an excuse not to run around like a blue arsed fly and get blisters lol.

you can pop them, just dont pull all the top layer of skin off. and try to use a sterile (or heated) needle to pop them so they dont get infected
i personally whip alod of zinc tape around to stop blisters/prevent new ones

works for rowing, so can't see it not working in this case

^^

thats true actually..

no good pulling off the top layer and exposing bare skin which will rub even more.. and take even longer to heal.

i still have the nicest pair of shoes i need to break in, but am to scared to try as last time they made my feet bleed after walking all of 300 yards.

Buy a "second skin" cream. Name says it all, and naturally provides more protection.

It's perfectly fine ot pop blisters. I do a lot of walking, as in long-distance hikes, and the few times I've had blisters I've popped them which was a lot better then leaving them of their own accord. As someone abovesaid, the best way is to heat a needle (for example in acandle flame) and make the smallest hole you can before squeezing out the pus. This is important, you need to try and get it all out. The main point is to break the skin as little as possible and then remove the pus from inside so the blister doesn't stickout and get vulnerable.

I've not tried Zinc Oxide tape myself but I do wipe the soles of my feet with cotton wool drenched in surgical spirit for a few weeks before anything major. This hardens the skin so you're far less prone to blistering. I don't know how useful that is to you,but if you have any areas that are continually blistering then this might work to help prevent it- along with better shoes!

And very painful as well if you have to keep on walking/running...happened to me on ex.

I've just gone to K-mart and bought REALLY thick ankle socks for tonights game, those tough bandaids that don't fall off, and some wound cream. I guess they don't sell that 'second skin' cream where I live :frown:

Anyway I'm extra annoyed because I just left my umbrella in the mall and I LOST IT!!! Oh my God I am such an unco, I can't believe this and then I went back and typical it's not there or at lost property.

I surprise myself with my own absent-mindedness sometimes  People don't be like me in terms of being forgetful!!

Aw I wanna cry now. Having such a bad day.

I carefully remove mine using my pen-knife trying to get the largest single piece of skin I can. And then dry it out.

I probably should have posted this as anon.

Why? What's so bad about that? I clipped mine off with a nail clipper. I had to tho, it was getting way bad. Well that's the pay off if you're heaps sporty, injuries :/

Thankfully I see the way I wrote the post means it can be misconstrued - meaning I don't seem quite so weird

blisters

the first aid books say don't pop them - this is pure arse coverage !

if the blister is large or would pop anyway there's no reason why you shouldn't drain it but remember - you are creating a wound and a way for infection to enter your body !

try and keep the skin as intact as possible as this si the best dressing

the Best 'treatment ' for a blister is good prevention

as methods go, this one sucks.
unless you are going to be housebound for a few days.
else it'll hurt like hell

Not as bad as the blisters i had, i wore jeans without underwear and caused major chafage

When me and my mates did ten tors our feet became pretty much massive blisters, the best way we found to get rid of them is to stick a syringe in there and suck it all out, its a good laugh seeing who can get the biggest yield.

Obviously use different syringes though as needle sharing is baaad.

The best way i have found to prevent them is to cover your feet with gaffa tape (yes gaffa tape), it pretty much forms a new skin and makes it impossible to get blisters... although it is pretty painful to rip off after a couple of days!
