Yes, I'm Scottish. I did want to go to vet school after my first degree, but to be quite honest I think I would suit Medicine better. I suppose I've always wanted to be a doctor, and have been researching medical schools. Anyone got any info on Scottish fees for graduates? I know England charge £3000 a year.

Ah! It depends on what you want to do. I assume you've done vet and med volunteering to find out (plus you'll need it for any application for either).

The situtation is slightly different again for vets.

I'm not sure how Scottish universities handle the situation, but the majority of UK vet schools charge 2nd degree'ers full international fees (which isn't the case for medicine, as medicine and dantalism come under a special caveat). Some English vet schools have started offering 'home' fees or just over home fees to 2nd degree'ers.

For med, Scottish students pay less than English students for 2nd degree medicine in Scotland, as the Scotish Executive are trying to stop the 'brain drain' of English and Welsh students qualifying in Scotland on the cheap and then pissing off back to their home lands.

Try searching through back issues of sBMJ, as this has been covered a few times (it's available online).

Failing that, your best bet is to get information directly from Scottish schools... No one knows what's going on as well as they do!

Good luck with whatever you decide. Medicine as a grad doth mostly rock!

Thanks, that was really helpful! I've done a work experience for both vet and medicine and I've decided a career as doctor is the best choice for me. I've been in touch with the Med schools and found that the fees were a lot lower than I expected!
