Hattori i dont doubt that it is an honour to u and I and everyone else to be british - but encapsulating it in a cheesy ceremony to me smacks of a quick fix - that in some way these people are automatically assimilated into our society by swearing some sort of allegiance at a citizenship ceremony - it just doesnt cut it for me - the govt. are not doing enough to fix the problems with illegal immigration that everyone always seems to be complaining about
This is not just about a ceremony. It's about citizenship acquired through that ceremony.

What does that citizenship bring? Well, in the US it's the difference between being treated like a piece of **** and an actual human being. The difference between dealing with public officials with green card status and then as a citizen is marked to say the least!

I agree it's no quick fix but it does tell people that they are actually British now and can give something back to the British people.

Where I live there are alot of Asians who have just basically separated themselves from the rest of society, they don't even shop with everyone else and some don't speak english, that isn't right.

I really believe people should be given the message that they are British now, there is nothing stopping them from making a good life in Britain and giving something back.

That's something I love about about America and Canada, most people a proud of who they are.

For some reason in Britain alot of people want to put themselves down. For the life of me I don't know why. They're just so negative and it's crazy because we have alot more to be proud of.

When ever I go to India I come back feeling just so happy that my grandparents came to England to make a real life for themselves. Theres peope around the world who would give anything to live like we do.
Well, Brits seem to love self-flagellation and are consumed apologists to the world. They all seem far too worried about the "wrongs" committed by a very few 200 years ago and far to anti-success orientated.

I don't know whats wrong with them! Britain really is a very good country overall. So, what's the problem? Maybe the Australians have it right when they call them "whingeing poms"

Well, perhaps it would mean something if Britain adopted a different approach in running it's affairs.

my god - why did it suddenly get ghetto-ish in here - Howard ur sense of humour is above the understanding of some people - but i know that i can take ur comments with a pinch of salt As for HATTORI - asians that cant speak english doesnt diminish their right to live in this country nor demean their value to our society - in fact they are amongst the hardest workers in this country - Society will have to live with the fact that there is a certain older generation that will never be able to communicate with the natives of this country because of the language barrier - but as time goes by the ghetto nature of this country will subside as long as people arent discriminated against

Be a new experience for you. I don't suppose you've ever seen a vagina have you? Except of course the one you saw in a porn movie as you tossed your 3" prepubescent **** into a pair of your 6 year old sister's panties.
