Good question, I've been offered a place in Warrington too (Media TV Production) and have never been to NorthEngland before do don't know much about it)
I was born in Warrington and grew up in a small near by town. As with all places there are some rough parts but it's not too bad.

I live in Warrington. It isn't rough, on the whole. The area around the campus is quite nice, it's very residential though. It's also about 3 miles from the town centre, about £10 at night for a taxi. The halls look quite rough too, I've not been inside, but from outside they look quite old.

Warrington's nightlife is questionable, there are some good clubs (Panama Jacks, 53 Degrees, Flares, etc) but some you may choose to avoid- they are full of chavs. Stockton Heath (a village about 10 mins form the town centre) has good nightlife, the bars are of a higher class, the people are less violent!

Shopping is quite good, we have a new shopping centre opening in 2007, with 170 (I think) new retail units and a Debenhams.

Don't forget Liverpool and Manchester are also nearby. They both have fab shopping and good nightlife.

I hope I haven't made it sound like a bad place. Of course there are good and bad parts. I've chosen to leave here to go to Uni. To be honest I wouldn't say it's a particulary University type place. There aren't may students. If you want to know anything else, just ask.
I'd avoid Mr Smiths like the plague if I was anyone going to the Warrington campus. I've only been once and was completly off my head and I still hated it.

For anyone who prefers places which play rock music there is a club called Casi. First impressions are it's a dive but it's an ok place to spend your night and you don't have to worry about some underage, cocky skinhead trying to punch your lights out.

Yeah, unless you enjoy clubbing with 15 year olds, Mr Smith's won't be your cup of tea! High risk of being stabbed...

Personally I wouldn't go to Casi's neither... But as I haven't been in, I won't judge it!
Casi's is good. Been there a few times myself. Though avoid if you dont like Indie, though upstairs there is a bit of RnB.
If you want to avoid Chavs, avoid Mr Smiths. Though theres always a few lingering about in Tiger 2 and PJs. Warrington isnt really that rough, there are rougher places to go.
The Warrington campus looks old because it is old, i live right near it. And the accomodation was converted from offices when Chester Uni took over. The area around it is nice, and if you enjoy golf, theres a golf course opposite

About 30 minutes, depending on where abouts in Chester Revolution is, and traffic etc... It can be done in less time.
