How Good Is The Gym At Qmul?

HI,

I work out like crazy and I need a decent gym. I haven't seen QMUL yet and was wondering how good their gym is and how much it costs to have membership there?

In addition does anyone know how feasible it is to go for a run run around the QMUL area? i.e is there much green space around it and am I going to be mugged for say... my ipod as I'll probably be going after lectures so early evening.

And thirdly does anyone think i'll be able to pull off putting a smallish work out bench in my room ( halls)?

Cheers,

Baadshah.

Hey!, Im puttin QM as my firml!..and I like to stay fit as well so damn I sure hope they have a new gym for when we start!..I went for the open day...and their gym was like a room, with a couple of gym equipment! and that's all! and it's £40 for the whole year....not suprising considering there wasn't much there. But apparently, they are getting a new gym before sept 2006!? Don't know if this is true though..would some who goes there confirm this?
I went to my cousins halls as well, and yeh it was nice..it was en suite..I think you might have space to squeeze in a bench, it was bigger then most halls I've seen!

Oh yeah, and I think you can jog around Queen Mary, should be alright if you go with someone, or maybe you can actually jog around the campus! dunno if thats a stupid idea..but I think some people do that lol

the gym is tiny and awful, and is around £40 a year yeh. I like keeping fit but decided to go with the local authority gym, its £18.50 per month and its really well equipped. if you're serious about the gym, dont bother with the qm one, or u cud try the ulu one, although i dont know about it.

the night club E1 is being shut down and converted into a gym, possibly with a swimming pool this summer.

If E1 is being replaced, then what is gonna replace E1?

The QMUL gym is preety much the bare minimum to do a work out. Free weights are available too at certain times.

For the more hardcore, not too worry, for those joining in 2006, there will be a brand new spanking gym, will be huge and very modern, much better than the existing one. You will not be disappointed (I took part in the survey).

More info is on the Queen Mary Student Union webpages:

Drapers is going to be improved so i guess ina way e1 is being replaced. i dont think they have plans to build a new club from scratch.

Yeah...I think it's a good move for now. The gym would be more profitable.

AIUI, the new health and fitness centre will be built where e1 currently is and Drapers will be open later instead, much as Griffinn is now.

Also, there is a fantastic new sports centre (huge gym, big pool, etc.) just up the road from QM, couple of my mates use it and report that it's good.

Yeah loads, Mile End Park and a run up the Canal is great and the campus too

I'm sure I've seen a QMUL running club too. So they probably go running in some nice locations.

I can assure you it won't be £40 a year. This gym will be grand so if your serious you'll get you'll moneys worth.

I 'think' it will be about £20 a month, but they are likely to have 1 day passes as well. We'll see.

Well it still beats Holmes Place or David Lloyd at £55pm.
Living on campus will also go down well with the better ameneties.

the one near me is called Nirvana Health Spa. £100 a month! And that only gets you past the door. Everything else in there you pay on top But this one is the one used by a load of celebs and stuff. It is gorgeous inside though. Ridiculously gorgeous. Me, I just stick to hardcore running and free weights with me and my bench in my room.
