Midwifery - Rejected by all!

Hi, my friend applied to UCE, DMU, Plymouth, Greenwich, Northampton & somewhere else, and was rejected by all. She is predicted CCC, had a fairly good PS too & amazing reference.

She had a couple of interviews but they obviously didn't work out, or the course is just damn competitive. Anyway she applied through UCAS.

What is her next option? We have been looking into NMAS but is it the same as UCAS? When are deadlines etc?

Shall we just wait for UCAS extra and clearing? She wants to get a place now really, to have more security. She's a lovely girl, and it breaks my heart to see her rejected from everywhere. Are there any loopholes as it were? Can we ring up other unis now and ask for places if possible? I know I sound so stupid but I really don't know how to help:redface: Also, does anybody know of any less competitive places for midwifery?

Many thanks in advance!

Btw, she is now wanting to go the diploma route as degree = competitive

i was going to say yeh do the diploma route because it requires only 5 A*-C grade GCSEs, but u would have to apply for NMAS. the deadline was in december but im sure you could apply through clearing, or even so you could apply in september for any courses that start in january, for instance i know that Birmingham has a diploma course in nursing that starts in january, there may be midwiferey courses that start then.

but the only decent option seems to be clearing :frown:

There are 2 intakes a year for the diploma, so I think she can still apply. If it's any consolation my friend is predicted AAA and got rejected from 4 out of her 6. She's now going for the diploma.

Firstly pass on my condolences to your friend, she must be totally gutted after four rejections. I know that midwifery is highly competative, some of my mates are doing the diploma and afterwards they are going to do the midwifery top up degree, I would suggest contaction NMAS ( either by the website, or by phoning them

WEBSITE ADDRESS:www.nmas.ac.uk

TELEPHONE NO:08701122206.

They would be your best bet really. The difference between ucas and nmas is that if you want to do a nursing diploma you apply through nmas, but if you want to do a nursing degree you apply through ucas. Hope all this helps.

she could have a go at extra. If she hasn't had any offers then she doesn't have anything to lose. I was looking at it myself today, there actually seem to be quite a few midwifery/nursing places left. Wish her the best of luck! xx
