Accommodation/en-suite rooms

Hi,
I was just wondering about the accommodation at Nottingham University.
Ive been looking on the internet and Florence Boot, Lincoln and Hugh Stewart look amazing! But I know I might not get put in those as you'e not able to choose (or is there a chance you can specify?) ...so what are the others like?
Also, do you think its best to try and apply for ensuite or do you think shared bathroom or something like that is ok? If I do put ensuite is there less chance that i would get into the halls I especially liked as I heard that they don't have many ensuite rooms.
Sorry for all these questions!
Thanks a lot! xxx
You can't specify without a medical reason for doing so. the halls with the most ensuites are cavendish, ancaster, rutland (my hall) has about 40% ensuite and lenton have a proportion too. i personally don't think that ensuite is worth it at all...and the Rutland ensuite block, K (or 'gay') block is the butt of many jokes!

Here are a few statistics. I hope they are helpful.

Florence Boot Hall:
4 Ensuites
28 Private Shared Bathrooms
156 Single Studies
5 Shared Rooms

Lincoln Hall:
0 Ensuites
57 Private Shared Bathrooms
152 Single Studies
12 Shared Studdies

Hugh Stewart Hall
12 Ensuites
200 Private Shared Bathrooms
135 Single Studies

On this basis, it is extremely unlikely that you will be allocated to FB, Lincoln or HuStu if you opt for an ensuite. In comparison, Cavendish has 274 ensuite rooms, Ancaster has 186, Rutland has 109, and Lenton & Wortley has 56, and so you are far more likely to be allocated to one of these.

As for the issue over ensuite or private shared bathroom, I'm currently staying in a private shared bathroom in HuStu, where the bathroom is in between two rooms, and so I don't have to enter the corridor (or lock my door, etc.) when I use the bathroom; we also have a sink each. In this way, it feels like an ensuite room, and yet I pay £400 less than an actual ensuite room.

However, there is another type of private shared bathroom at HuStu, whereby you have to leave your bedroom to get into the bathroom, and you have to share a sink with someone too. In this way, it probably feels more like a single study than an ensuite, and definitely not worth it. Unfortunately you do not have the choice over which type of private shared bathroom.

I think it's worth it, it's still miles better than sharing between 6 and not being able to leave your toiletries in the bathroom. xx

Hey,
Thanks for all your comments everyone, they were very helpful! I think I might go for private shared bathroom. If I put that as my first choice and apply sometime this week or next week, do you think i will probabaly get it because I don't think I really want the one where you have to share with loads of people.

I rang up and asked if I could state a preference for a particular hall and the woman said she would add it to my notes and they would try to put me in there if possible-and I have got the halls of residence I wanted. I did apply quite early though, and I'm just lucky I guess that they could actually put me where I wanted to be.

Lets face it, the whole of Rutland hall is the butt of many jokes  (or, chants)

let's face it, when the rest of rutland can call you 'gay block' you know you've got it bad!
