Wouldn't, lol. At least I wouldn't have thought so. We're talking about mature adults and not kids is what I was saying

If people do mock you, so what? Ignore them. Or mock them back.
There are a couple of people here with braces that I know, who are about 20 now. It's not a common thing to see at uni, but I'd say people will be too mature to mock you for it.

there is nothing abnormal about having braces in ur late teens. some people get them in their thirties. ull be suprised how many ppl wnt notice. i had braes for 2 years when i was younger and my mates used to forget i had them and some people didnt even realise i had them because they looked at me not my mouth! its no big deal. and even if someone immature did mock you at least ull know that u will end up with perfect teeth so ull be the one laughing when you look better than they do

I doubt they would even notice- and I bet most of them will probably already have had braces anyway so they're hardly going to mock you!

A guy I lived in halls with in my first year had braces and it barely got mentioned. In fact it was more of a shock when he had them taken off and it took us all ages to realise! You have nothing to worry about, honestly

Do people in school who have braces have friends? Why would some metal in your mouth make you an automatic social outcast?

By the time you get to uni, an awful lot of people will have had braces themselves, and are mature enough not to bother mocking about stuff like that. Same goes for wearing glasses etc. In the grand scheme of creating your social circle, having braces is a complete non-issue compared with other things.

What sex are you? I find girls having braces to be quite cute sometimes.
No, you won't get mocked but rather prove to be a magnetic sex machine.

On the 'dating' front, maybe it won't be so easy, from personal experience i didn't like having braces but the result at the end, justifies the experience of wearing them. If i'm being honest, kissing a girl with braces isn't that much of a turn on, rather a turn-off, so you may have to contend with that (for you, that'd be kissing a bloke or maybe not....)....i've never actually kissed a girl wearing braces but i can envisage it in my mind, catching my tongue or whatever etc...lets not get crude here anyway.

But you won't get mocked, and if you do, the people mocking are the losers, completely pathetic. People seriously do not take notice of whether or not you do have braces, my friends had forgotten, and like someone else mentioned, people aren't in the habit (thank goodness) for penetrating their sight endlessly on your mouth region.
Im guessing this might depend on the type of brace but Iv pulled two guys when they had braces and I honestly couldnt tell the difference - braces would only put me off if they were some ridiculous colour like lime green...but then im a personality girl mostly.
Light mocking from friends at most. And I'm sure you can deal with that.
Strangers won't bother you, I'm sure. They're too mature to take the piss for the most part.

Advice though: Make sure you always have ID. my friend says that the bouncers where she is at uni seem to equate her braces with being fourteen..

I have braces, at uni and i can assure people don't give a flying f ***.

ugh, i hated braces. Although, my mum's friend recently just got them and she's 45!! So, compared to her...

In fact, one of my lecturers has them. And he's pushing 60 I should think!
I had various kinds of braces between the ages of 9 and 16, and i still have a retainer that i wear at night - and not once have i ever been teased about any of them, even when one of them resulted in so much plastic in my mouth that it affected my speech for a few weeks, till i got used to it. People just accepted it, no-one cared. Even when i was picked on for other reasons, my brace was never mentioned. And now i have lovely straight teeth  So i really think you have absolutely nothing to worry about!
