abnormal fainting

I know its in the past but I still can't get my head round why I faint im sure its cause im somehow weird and abnormal. Hope this makes sense lol, anyway the first time it happened was in primary school I was queing up to go in and I suddenly felt hot, sick and got really scared cause i didn't know what was happening I just saw like starry vision, then woke up on the floor.

Second time I had flu which is explainable but the third time I was 16 and it was my first day at work (saturday job) packing lettuces in a frozen factory place. Anyway I didn't like the cold atmosphere and smell and the conveyor belt (but neither did anyone else) I kept thinking to myself that I couldn't last another 7 hours doing this (that was the shift).

I kept imaganing what would happen if I fainted cause it felt like a typical experience where Id faint for some reason, then after about 30 secs I got a bit scared felt hot, sick couldn't see proper and woke up on the floor with everyone crowding round. Its so weird and the worst feeling ever!!!

The last 2 times I fainted I had period pain which makes me panicky sometimes. It happened in sixth form and some people ignored me after thinking I was a weirdo. Can anyone explain why it happens cause im not physically weak I go running etc. I just see myself as a freak or am I just a wimp its really strange, I don't want it to happen again:frown: I quit uni last year cause I was to anxious to go in.

It could be a panic attack, some people faint when they have one.

You mentioned you quit uni because of anxiety, and you say that before you faint you think a lot, and you felt panicky because of your period pain, this could be related to a pannic attack. Next time if happens, and you start to feel hot and panicky try to take deep breathes, or breathe into a paper bag and sit down. It's a good idea to see your GP though, to get it fully checked out. :smile:

Ive had panic attacks and not fainted, the type of anxiety I got before fainting wasn't as bad as a panic attack (as in heart rate didn't go up) but it was a lot scarier and freaky and I couldn't cope, if that made sense :redface:

Could still be a panic attack, they differ in severity. I think I know what you mean about being unable to cope, but your heart rate might not have gone up but your breatihng could have messed up a bit, if you're not getting enough oxygen it's going to cause you to faint. Next time it feels like its going to happen cover one nostril and breathe through your nose, it helps balance out the Carbon Dioxide and Oxygen levels.

Do you know any cues that trigger fainting? Is it you imagining what people will think if you faint, then you get anxious about it, then is happens? Or can you not think of anything remotely related?

I don't think my breathing went up at all its like I freaked out but in my mind, Im not saying your wrong though. Its not what people would think that bothered me I think its more the experience of things like I couldn't stand the noisy, cold atmosphere and the way I felt at the time:confused: Ive not got a phobia of crowded places or anything though, I don't know:redface:

You have a phobia or crowded places, so do you find yourself worrying a lot about this? I guess working in a busy factory would trigger this phobia? Maybe you would benefit from some sort or relaxation classes, like yoga?

I meant I don't have a phobia of crowded places sorry, it was probably more the atmosphere of the factory:confused: I suppose I could try that, I do karate at the moment lol. So do you have panic attacks, hope there nothing like mine:frown:

To the OP: As you have said, its probably just fainting or mild panic attacks.

HOWEVER a recurring situation like you describe without any blood pressure issues MIGHT be indicitive of epilepsy. This is particularly true if you (think you) thrash around or knock things over when you feint, although this is not required.

I strongly suggest you consult a doctor just in case.

I meant adrenaline surge but couldn't correct it due to anonymity and had to go out.
I said adrenaline surge because it was rather remeniscent of a patient i saw who used to have that happen everytime he went for a wee with a full bladder. turned out he had a pheochromocytoma (adrenaline secreting tumour) sat on the top of his bladder that squirted adrenaline out everytime he went for a wee.

In the case of the OP, the pathophysiolgy will be different, but the cause is still going to be adrenaline surge. hence anxiety, fidgetyness, sweating - all very autonomic. the arteries dilate to allow greater blood flow, causing blood pressure to drop, and wham, you feint to the ground.

Proof of the pudding is i'm betting you feel right as rain soon enough after these spells, whereas fitting would be assosicated with a long post-ictal period.

It could be psycological. When you think that you are going to feint (in one of the situaitons you described) it makes you panic and then you realy do feint?? That could be the reason as you said it only happened when you are expecting it to happen. It could be that your first experiance of feinting scared you and now when you think about it again it causes that reaction. I get panic attacks alot and there are ways to stop them or atleast make them less severe. When going into a situation where you feel you may feint, dont focus on the 'Im going to feint' thoughs, instead concentrate on what you're doing, or count something aorund you or sing a song in your head. Distraction is a good way of calming you down. Good luck!
it doesnt sound like u faint that often. im the same if it helps. havnt done it in a long time but i will never forget the 1st time i went to this club with my mates. i was feeling a bit ill but decided to go neway. 1 alcopop later and ive fainted right on the dance floor. sooooo embarassing. every1 just assumed id drunk too much and i was escorted home. the truth was i was stone cold sober.

had a laugh about it later tho

When I got up my eyes were blurry and I felt lightheaded for up to an hour, its just really strange. The gp didn't think anything of it but then again he has wrongly diagnosed with other people I know. I don't think its epilepsy or anything I think im just really weird and freak myself out.
reccomend the doctor, to be sure of whats wrong

How can it be panic attacks that causes the fainting? Ive had anxiety and almost everything I have read and heard says that its quite impossible to faint when your panicking as your blood pressure rises.

Low blood pressure? Doesn't sound like panic attacks to me except just before the fainting episode, which would be perfectly normal.
please do not take this as an offence......these all are symptoms of having too much sex.....:smile:

I used to faint loooads when I was younger, and still get very light headed and dizzy when I have to stand up a lot in a hot place or something. I worked in a warehouse last year, and always felt like I was going to faint, and had to keep going to get drinks of water and sneakily trying to sit down because we weren't allowed to sit down.
I don't think it's anything that abnormal really. I went to the doctor about it years ago and he did loads of tests, but said there was nothing he could find and it's just something I should learn to live with. Luckily I haven't fainted for ages now anyway!
Try not to worry about it, but perhaps bear it in mind when looking for jobs, and try to find stuff that isn't so likely to make you feel that way.
