Suggestions for leavers song?

Hiya guys!
At my college weve been asked to make leaver videos for our form, and weve come up with our idea - "what i wanna be when i grow up..." (with baby photos and us all dressed up as what we wanna be - we have some pirates/psychologists/teachers/rock stars etc! Its gonna be great). The problem is we need to come up with a song to fit with that idea - growing up, dreams, leaving school, being a teen etc and none of us are agreeing on anything! So ideas anyone? Heres some of our ideas so far to get you started!

The Ataris - Here in this diary

Green Day- Good riddance - massive debate with the whole mainstream-ness.

Oasis - Dont look back in anger

Travis - Driftwood

Keane - Everybody's changing

Travis - Side

Bugsy Malone (?) - You give a little love

Any help would be soo good! How about you guys, have you had any leaving songs etc?

Slayer - Captor of Sin

Forever Young by the Youth Group. Bound to get people crying like Gwyneth Paltrow when she won an Oscar

Alice Cooper - School's Out for Summer

I'd kill anyone who played Green Day at my leaving day. It's a good song but it's just such a meaningless and empty one.

Or

Bob Dylan - Forever Young

Yep, I think that that's the one I'd want to hear.

I only just saw this post.

Is that a cover of the Bob Dylan song?

Or then there's that Alphaville Newwave song by the same name for 80s fans. But that's a bit too cheesy.

No, it's a wonderful 80's ballad. "forever young. I want to be forever young, forever and ever...let us die young or let us live forever". It's awesome

Reply 10

Ok then compare it to Bob Dylan's Forever Young and make up your mind.

Never heard Bob Dylans, but I can guarantee, with 99.9% assurance, that my song is better.

Ok Bob Dylan vs The Youth Group

Although Alphaville's song is pretty cool:
"Forever young, I want to be forever young. Do you want to live forever, whenever... "

Just thought of another possibility: how about a John Hughes/Breakfast Club/Sixteen Candles soundtrack?

Simple Minds - Don't You Forget About Me... that's got to be a good leavers song.

I think they either covered the youth group or the youth group covered them. Or I've got the artists name wrong, because the Alphaville song has the exact same lyrics as the one I mentioned

Super Grass - Alright/We Are Young

Hallelujah - it has a really sad tone to it. Perhaps it will capture the spirit of everyone breaking up and going their separate ways.
Echo - Vertical Horizon.

Reply 17

Definitely The Ataris - here in this diary!!!
maybe Bryan Adams - Summer of 69 thyats a really sorta conclusive parting ways song.
Travis - Driftwood.

Wow - some topic.

Just to clear things up - several people have covered Alphaville's Forever Young and The Youth Group is one of them - great song but it is, however, a song about the threat of nuclear war - not entirely appropriate me thinks.

Bob Dylan's Forever Young is a better song, but personally if I were choosing a Dylan song for this sort of occasion it would always be Bob Dylan's Dream - I want that played at my funeral.

EDIT: Actually scratch that, Forever Young would be a better song for this video.
