I think they either covered the youth group or the youth group covered them. Or I've got the artists name wrong, because the Alphaville song has the exact same lyrics as the one I mentioned

Alphaville is the original. It's a famous song from the 80s. They were part of the German New Wave.

Totally forgot it's the song of the school dance scene in Napoleon Dynamite.

Just to clear things up - several people have covered Alphaville's Forever Young and The Youth Group is one of them - great song but it is, however, a song about the threat of nuclear war - not entirely appropriate me thinks.

Yeah but no one will know that, plus the one by Youth Group is nice and slow and it'll get all the girls crying

The lyrics are a bit simple to be obviously about nuclear war. Although I agree it is quite an obscure choice. Unless you're a fan of the 80s or have seen Napoleon Dynamite, you'll just think "what is this ****?".

Police's "Every Breathe You Take" is about an obsessive stalker, yet it's one of the most commonly played songs at weddings.
And "There She Goes" by the La's is about heroin, yet it didn't stop Christian Rock band Sixpence None The Richer from covering it thinking it was a love song...

Use The Sex Pistols Version Of My Way

It Rocks!!!!!

How about Stone Roses - What The World Is Waiting For? Just a thought...

If it's sad songs you want, i'd say Run by Snow Patrol or that one by James Blunt with Mischa Barton in the video. I don't really like either of them, but those songs would get anyone teared up as the last one played. I also think the Friends theme tune as someone said earlier would be good, or goodbye to you by michelle branch. Don't Stop Me Now or Bohemian Rhapsody would also be good.....but i hope they don't play them at my prom as my best friend hates queen, and would never stop moaning about it, lol.

If you're going to use the Friends theme tune, you might as well just go ahead and have a piece of cheese on the screen for the duration.

lol:biggrin:

back in the days when I was a littl'n at my leavers ball our Form Tutor dedicated 'Praise You' by Fatboy Slim, thought it was pretty fitting:cool:

Pink Floyd: another brick in the wall!! We might all end up singing and playing that one in our school concert

For a real bit of cheese, how about Take That-Never Forget?

or how about Don't Leave Me This Way by The Communards?

I think that Bugsy Malone song would be great but it doesn't have as much meaning if you haven't performed or seen Bugsy Malone!

I was thinking that, but that would only really be fitting if the video was a review of their time at school. The video is of them in the future, so although it's a good suggestion it's not quite fitting. However, if someone is doing a video looking back over their time at school, My Way would be a great song as would the Killers, All these things that I've done.

I'm gonna request an actual poll vote, because that song has just be chosen by people who have outspoken about "our year's song". I guess there's no other song that a somewhat big portion of our year going, "Oh, this our song!", but I think a poll would be better. Though it could horribly backfire, and we get Fix You instead, which is obviously worse. But still, a poll would be good.

But anyway, the best leaving song: Baz Lurhman's "Everyone's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)". Its the spoken word track that got to no.1 in 1997, the one where the guy is giving advice for the future. It'd work brilliantly.
