When milk is heated it released a chemical that induces sleep, hence why horlicks might work.

Try a nice hot bath, or relaxing music to clear your head of all the thoughts whizzing about. Maybe read a book?

I have a lot of tips, I'm a long term insomniac!

Please do share them! I tend to suffer from quite severe insomnia - on and off for a year and a half. I don't like being prescribed sleeping pills, or trying desperately to find a psychological reason as to why I can't sleep. :frown:
Open your window during the day just to let some fresh air in, take a bath before bed and drink something hot, like milk. It's just a phase and when the stress is gone, you will sleep better again x

Most brands of superglue release a vapour which induces sleep - like horlicks etc, but way more efficient. So you should smear this around your face before going to bed and should be out like a light.
story tapes (audio books) are good because if you actually listen to them it stops you from thinking about other stuff and sends you to sleep. i find the douglas adams ones really good.

I tend to find the best way is to lay down in bed, and shut your eyes. Then get your brother / sister to give you a realy hard smack to the head with a baseball bat. You will have the best nights sleep ever. There are sometimes sided affects of this method though. But i personaly recomend it.
If you dont have a brother / sister. Ask your mother.
I have suffered from insomnia on and off for past year, going throught a phase of it now and have tried loads. I used to take flu and cold capsules just to get drowsy :frown:
I find having a bath before bed helps me and using aromatherapy oils esp lavander

Ive suffered with insomnia all my life, isnt it fun!! The only thing that works for me is getting blind drunk, but I wouldnt advise it, not the healthiest solution!!! Changing eating habbits and regular exercise help, it used to help me, but you have to keep to it

I have lots of work on at the mo with deadlines looming. Im having trouble getting to sleep, i tend to have all kinds of info whizzing around my head and its stopping me sleeping. whats best to take to get to sleep? iv tried nytol but dont rate it much

taking a drug is bad because you can begin to depend on it.

i'd say find a way to relax a bit before bed, read a book, have some time to yourself a little bit every night!

BA has great tips here in the TSR Insomniacs Society. Tip number 9 could help in terms of a psychological reason for not being able to sleep. It could be that you have so many things on your mind it makes it difficult to sleep, you need to find a way to clear your head then it might make you sleep better  For me its whacking on the ipod and going for a walk before I go to bed.

I know, its sucks not being able to sleep :frown:
Take a hot bath.
Stop working an hour before you wish to sleep and have 'wind down time' where you lie on your bed and with each breath in and out relax your toes, then your feet, the lower leg, then thigh etc. etc. by the end you will feel relaxed and sleepy

if you are worried about forgetting things, this can sometimes keep your brain 'awake'.. so what you want to do it write everything that you need to remember on a piece of paper, so you empty your mind and you know you haven't forgotten anything :p:

also, if you are cold you may not be able to drift off, so take a hot water bottle to bed with you, and have a bath before hand.. and hot drinks always help - like hot chocolate.

Drink warm wilk.
Go out and jog
don't eat before sleeping
read
listen to music
drink hot tea that might calm you down ie. mint tea.
listen to chill on the radio, lie on your bed and put some glow in the dark stars on your ceiling its proper relaxing

Reminds me when my sister was a baby, she came into my room and bit my hip…then ran away :/
Luckily my brother has never done that

"Ambient" music (e.g. Aphex Twin, Eluvium)

Put this on, and set your hi-fi to turn off after 40 minutes.

Works perfectly; your mind focuses on the sounds of the ambient music and you fall off to sleep. This has really worked miracles (for me at least).
