Location of the cervix

Ok, so the thing is this, i thought that the cervix would rather naturally be at the "back" of the vagina. ie. at the deepest part. However, upon a, shall we call it self examination :p: the other night, i found what rather felt like what one would expect their cervix to look like, based on the pics. and in fact, i now feel like i might have cystitus from having probed it a bit. but thats neither here nor there, the thing thats confused me, is that its on the front vaginal wall, and not altogether THAT far in, i mean, i cant reach it with my fingers, so maybe 3 inches or so. Obviously smear tests arent now until your 25, so no one will be seeing it soon, but i guess im just worried that its not meant to be there, or that its something that altogether shouldnt be in my vagina at all. I have thought of it being my g spot, but its far too large by all accounts, gives no pleasure whatsoever, and did somewhat feel that maybe it had some variety of "hole" in it, and would rather explain my on coming cystitus. so ye, any opinions would be great thank, dont want to go to the docs if this is "normal" though i know you arent doctors.

Thanks

Vaginas are only 2-4 inches deep, when unaroused, so if it's three inches in, then it is near/at the deepest part of your vagina.

Did you have a mirror or something? I'm just trying to imagine how you managed to see it without a mirror and some kind of mining hat! I'm sure you've googled for images (don't, anyone, if you don't want to see something quite scary and looks like a sea creature of some sort..) to compare to. It does seem like a curious place to have found it, let alone being able to see it in the first place. I would be inclined to think you haven't found it if it isn't far in, but then I have heard that people can have tilted vaginas or somesuch.

I would suggest going to the doctor. I know you don'twant to, but we can't see, and even if we did we aren't experts. I've been to the doctor before for lady-part reassurance and it really really isn't that bad and totally worth itfor the peace of mind. Remember, you can always ask for a female doctor and take a chaperone or friend if you want to (!). They are very professional, have seen these things many times, it isn't embarrassing or sexual

oh god im worried about myself now, are we meant to self examine ourselves!!

It's always a good idea to be familiar with yourself to notice any possible changes. If in doubt, go to the doctor for them to have a look - showing someone your bits is obviously nerve-wracking for the first time but it's their job and like I said, you can always ask for a woman if you don't want a male doctor peering around down there. They can reassure you and it's certainly better than fretting when there is no problem.
Self examination is always advised all over your body otherwise how will you find cancerous growths??

You get used to the whole thing of docs examining quite quickly. Just if it's done at a hospital, don't give your consent for interns to sit in. 15 interns looking and asking questions whilst I was poked and prodded in that region!!

LOL!

I havent seen my own cervix, i was refering to those pics that ive seen on the web (via a google search) and blissy, you're right, looks like some sea anenomy or something similar. Having also found a picture of a sideways view of the vagina, the cervix does seem to be on the front wall, which would inevitably make sense, what with the uterus being in an upward direction.

As for the matter of its having a hole i mentioned that as a "defense" of why i think its the cervix and not something else. Also, when my bf discovered it once, there was some blood after, so again some reassurance that maybe it is. I have a small vagina, i cant actually take much by way of length, so its not too unreasonably that maybe it is only about 3 inches in?

Hmm, I do have a free day tomoro, maybe i should go to see a doctor or nurse? Maybe they can give me something for this damned cystitus

cystitis - what in the name of cheese are you talking about? cystitis is a urinary infection. it makes it hurt when you pee, makes you pee more often, makes you really desperate to pee despite having an empty bladder. it does not change the shape of your cervix.
your cervix can feel like its front, top or back of the vagina. in any case this can be completely normal. you will never be able to feel any abnormality. you need a doctor to do a pelvic exam to find that. Any even then its a matter of feeling shape and mobility of the endocervix (the bit NOT poking into the vagina).

what should your cervix feel like? well if ou can reach it (some can some can't) then it willbe like a volcano - a sort of hill with a crater/narrow slit in the middle.

in any case i don't think you need bother examine yourself up there. ever. you'll never 'catch anything early' and will only worry yourself, or artificially push crud up there.

I think the OP was saying that the poking (and therefore potential irritation of the urinary tract during the self-exploration) may have caused this bout of cystitis.

indeed! It might not even be cystitus, but feels like it, damned urinary infections, im so damned prone to them GRRR!

And vaginal examination i feel is important! Especially when sexually active! I mean, not that im at risk of this i only sleep with one man, but im safe all the same, but how would one notice, say, genital warts if they didnt look! I didnt feel i was feeling that high to be honest! but like i say, i have a small vagina so i spose i should have taken that into accont.
Hmmmmm, ive just checked mine out lol, my finger can go in 2-3 inches then it feels like a wall stopping it go any further (is that the cervix then)

If so .. where does the penis go after that if it can only go in 2-3inches deep?

The vagina stretches when aroused to accommodate the penis, though that said, mine doesnt seem to stretch too much, coz im at the limit when i "sit on my guy" and hes on the small side... so who knows.

The cervix is like, a big round lump, if you arent lubricated it might feel more like a wall, not sure really.
It definitely sounds like your cervix to me- what you describe is exactly where mine is (i'm small too and can easily reach it with a finger)- and i've been examined for a lump on my cervix (that turned out just to be an erosion), so i know that its location is normal and nothing to be concerned about!

What? So what 'crud' is likely to get pushed up there by your own clean finger that won't get pushed up there by a penis/your partners finger/a tampon...? There's nothing wrong with examining your cervix as long as you're gentle (don't go prodding it too hard...) and have clean hands. I think it's important to be familiar with your body. Cervical cancer is incredibly rare in under 25's and will almost always be picked up in the very early stages by smear test before a lump has formed, so that's not really anything you're likely to identify by self examination. But you might pick up on genital warts/ cervical erosions and other minor problems. I don't think it's necessary to examine yourself there (some women can't reach their cervix anyway), but it isnt going to do you any harm to touch it every once in a while.
cervix erosion. ow!

And i agree, more likely to get crud in the vagia during sexual play! And the vagina is self cleansing, the urinary tract isnt, but the vagina is!

ignore this person. don't go feeling around up there.
crud you can push up there...
-E.coli
-bits of muck off your fingers that might be hardbouring various bacteria
-virus from lesions you can't even see at the opening of your vagina (introitus in emdic speak)
-candida (thrush - many people have it on their skin)

you won't find cervical cancer by regulary checking your cervix. you won't! yes you may find lumps. in rare occasions warts. but 99% of the times you find something you won't be able to figure what it is. you'll go to the doctor who will say. o thats just an erosion, or o theres nothing there, or o thats just a little nabothian cyst.

now some people may say 'but what about masturbating and sex, that pushes stuff up there. yes, but thats enjoyable. its 'useful in that sense. don't just go fishing around looking for something wrong when you will never find anything wrong, only stuff that is insignificant which you'll then get ina flap about.

you dont know you wont ever find something wrong! How can you go to the doctor with cysts or whats if you dont know they're there?! And part of the reason i was checking out was because i had found it during sex and was worried about it.

I dont think that checking your vagina for changes is at all inappropriate! I mean, a cervical cysts is likely to be both painful, and potentially a huge problem! And checking for other such things as warts is essential!

sexual and vaginal health is important in my view. I mean, many women never get breast cancer, would you suggest they stop checking, and what about men and testicular cancer? suggest they stop checking too?
