that reassures me. I think I should sleep only 6 hours a day.

that's quite true indeed...
I guess it's normal because it happens to many people at our school.
The only drawback is that you feel crap towards the end of the day.
So it's hard to wake up and the first hour or so is pretty crap if you sleep long but if you sleep for a shorter period of time you feel pretty energetic when you wake up and you get worse towards the end of the day... happens to me...

apparently there's some scientific theoreom that if your body is used to sleeping say, 8 hours, and you sleep more, you wake up feeling more tired because your body was prepared for waking up after 8 hours but the longer you went on sleeping the preparation sort of turned off as it were.

I read this in Readers' DIgest a while ago, so it may not completely accurate, and I'm sure the scientists will be here soon enough correcting me.

i was going to say something like that, just couldn't put it into the right words. But yes, that does sound about right.

hmmmmmmm - the theory sounds interesting. But is it possible to change this habit of sleeping late and getting your body used to it?

The theory is about the hours you sleep regardless of the actual times you sleep between.

Oh I see. Thank you for that! so, can it be changed then?

I presume so...

I kinda relate to this, I've founf as I have loads of spare time in the day, I have a nap everyday at around 3pm till 5pm then sleep at night from 1am till 10am and I'm so exhausted. Gonna try cutting out my nap

I usually find that if I have one early night I wake up absolutely shattered, but if I really need to be alert for something one morning I tend to get 3 or so early nights in a row beforehand. That, from experience, is enough to cause your body to change its habits. The downside is half a week away from TSR.

Yeah... people need different amounts of sleep. Try to not set your alarm for a couple of days when you don't have to get up at any particular time... and see how long you sleep for... hopefully it'll be the same most nights.

Possibly. If i get 7-8 hours i can function fie. Anything over that and i find it hard to sleep at night, any less and i can't function. Whic considering i just got in from work and have to be up for uni tomorrow, leads to a bit of a sticky situation. :s:

Yea. I slept like 6 to 7 hours during weekdays but tend to sleep longer during weekends. Guess I'm still normal, hehe.

Reply 16

They say its 6-8 hours you should get. The thing is though, if youve been depriving your body of sleep and then you start to get more, it'll take time for your body to adjust and right all the damage so you may well feel that you're more tired for a little while!
