MA Dissertation - can we talk to people other than supervisor?

Just wondering if most unis are ok with students talking to other faculty as well as their supervisor about the dissertation?

Since mine's found more focus, I have realised one lecturer (not my supervisor) could be particularly helpful to me. But I don't want to break the rules, or offend my (lovely) supervisor, I just think in terms of specialism this other tutor could be helpful.

Yeah I think it's fine to do this- if you feel worried still then email your supervisor and say that you wondered if it would be okay for you to talk the lecturer as think it might be helpful to get their perspective. I don't think your supervisor will mind though.

It is perfectly acceptable. Contact whoever you want. I got advice from former lecturers and lecturers I had never met personally for my masters dissertation. You can always acknowledge any help you had in your finished work.
