Rootes - Is it a bit too wild?

Haha, ok so I don't know much about accomo @ Warwick! My friend is in Arthur Vick, he's a little quiet, gets his head down and told me not to go to Rootes!

Thing is, I am a bit wild, I like my own space at times, and I'd like to get a good degree in History, but I want to have fun! Rootes really appeals to me, but if it is TOO crazy then hmm...

Any thoughts?

Rootes isn't that crazy! If you want it to be then it is, but I'm not remotely crazy and enjoyed my time there very much. As with any halls, you're bound to find people who are all very different so I wouldn't worry about it. Having seen some of the other halls Rootes seemed by far the nicest for the price...New Rootes that is, Old Rootes seemed oddly reminiscent of Eastern Europe...

Rootes varies wildly, depending on what kitchen you're in. If you fancy Rootes in principle, just make sure you give a biased personal description on the application form... say you like being around lots of people but also like quiet nights in and getting to bed early! You'll probably be put with other people like you doing the same thing... the people for whom that's a really accurate description won't have chosen Rootes!

Im thinking going for JM and asking for one of the more lively kitchens. That way I can have a really good time, but the options there if i want to chill out. And besides, its only 30 seconds further from SU lol.

I'm living on campus now...

If you want to have any form of fun, go for Rootes. Cryfields is pretty cool, Westwood are good fun when they get going, but Jack Martin is always boring and dead, and so is Arthur Vick. Avoid Heronbank like the plague, it's about ages out of campus and boring as sin.

Rootes is great - it's the most fun place in the world. And don't worry about it being TOO wild, because there are loads of parts which are just chilled and fun. Rootes can be whatever you want it to be - except boring.

Jack Martin isn't always boring and dead. Some of the most sociable people I know live there! Everything depends on who you're with.

Rootes isnt too wild, it varies a lot! You do get some really hardcore floors (usualy the ground floors conveniently :p:

)

If I could do it again I would DEFINATELY without a doubt put rootes as my first choice. AV is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar too quiet, itll always end up that you want to go out but noone else does. Ever. Garr it was awful sometimes lol.

Haha, Rootes isn't "wild". Some kitchens are pretty quiet, some are louder and go out more. All depends where you are. Myths about partying every night up until 4am just aren't true. Even the "wildest" of kitchens I know often have quiet nights in. It does sometimes get annoying when other peolpe have been out and come back at 3am waking you up by making a noise cos they're drunk... but that's only happened 2 or 3 times this whole year. That's the ONLY negative I can think of and the 100000000000 positives outweigh it by far. Definitely go for Rootes :smile:

Hey, I have an illness which mkaes me quite poorly and fatiguey from time to time so need to live somewhere preferably where I can get lots of good old R&R but also where the people aren't going to bore me to tears and 'Shh' at me as they sit in their slippers, smoking a pipe and watching Gardener's World. Was thinking either Whitefields or Claycroft maybe? Tricky business this deciding where you want to live!

New Rootes is newer than Old Rootes :smile:

There's 5 Rootes blocks - 2 old, International House, and 2 new (Kirby and Meriden). The layout of each block is very different, with regards to rooms, kitchens, bathrooms etc. but all blocks are the same price and you can't choose on your application. I don't know much about Old Rootes or International but as far as I know you have about the same number of people per kitchen/bathroom in all of Rootes. New Rootes is supposedly nicer/posher than old but everyone seems to end up loving where they live and will defend it to the end! Furniture and bedroom size also differ between blocks - even Kirby and Meriden, despite both being 'New', are COMPLETELY different. But yeah go for Rootes! It's all good :smile:
