Aparently Clarkson was on This Morning once explaining about the races. I never saw it and I forget what the outcome was, but aparently Clarkson was just saying how he can only go as fast as the range rover who films it. So basically each race may as well be a Range Rover vs Boat/Plane etc.

I'm prepared to suspend my disbelief for such awe-inspiring telly. I would encourage you to do the same, rather than ruin things by thinking about them too much. :p:

The closest encounter was the Ferarri 612 against Hammond / May going into the Swiss Alps.

I would of thought that a Range Rover may not have been needed, or just needed to get a few clips. Why not have someone in the car with him? Poor watch on the whole, but a lot more believable!
Please don't ruin Top Gear for me, I honestly believe the races and challenges!

I want a Bugatti!

But he was doing 120 down the French Motorway in one of them.
Just remember you are watching TV and you'll be ok

is there a place where i can learn to drive like them? xP

it's supposed to be a motoring magazine though. All they do is review super cars. My dad says it's just three boy racers driving around in high performance cars.

If Clarkson drove legally for the whole race, he would have lost every single one.

Also, I think the one where he raced Captain Slow and Captain Teeth in a light aircraft (was that the Bugatti one?) was a bit staged, because Richard and James should have won that easily if they'd have started 2 hours earlier - it then wouldn't have got dark and Captain Slow would have been able to continue flying.

Yes, that was the Bugatti one!

Also, to whoever said they can only go as fast as the Range Rover that is filming them, why don't they get the cameraman in the same car as they've got, so they can go just as fast?! :p:

that would be really dangerous for anyone driving on roads with normal cars xP

There's generally little space to put a cameraman, crew and kit in a car like a Bugatti Veryon

Not quite true... they do review some more modest cars that are reasonably affordable.

i was happier when i didnt know that lol. Ahh well im still going to watch top gear assuming none of the races are staged......its alot more fun that way

I find that they have slowly turned their attention to really high performance cars that many of us working class people wont be able to afford. Wasn't it supposed to be (or some part of it) about reviewing cars that the normal working class people can afford? I know that they still do, but they do now definately concentrate a lot more on super cars, which is interesting but not very helpful when it comes to looking for a decent car!

I believe that the races (or at least some of them) are staged, it is a bit obvious!

I have noticed some of the challanges have been too neck and neck and I wonder if some of them are partly scripted, it seems odd that Clarkson often seems to win.

The bugatti race is a classic example, you would expect the winner to win by a mile not just a few minutes.

Exactly what I was thinking, every single challenge seems to be an incredibly close outcome and thats what makes me doubt all of them. The Bugatti one has been on before and I just couldn't believe it was that close. Also, there's all those times where Jeremy is cruising and all the little mistakes that happen and then it ends up being a neck-to-neck finish.

Even if it is staged, we can't say that Richard Hammond's sea sickness was!

I don't think it is staged, because it can go completely wrong, like it did last time where Hammond & May got stuck in Belgium? Holland? one of the two, and didn't make it back.

Obviously they need to work it out statistically so that there roughly going to do the same time to bring more of a competition.
