Ensemble piece (piano duet)!! ASAP!

I need a piano ensemble piece for my GCSE Music - and the performance date is the 21st April, so I really need to start it now! My school teacher recommended me Diabelli's Jugendfreuden, for 5 notes (here), but I think it is way too easy. It only uses 5 notes in the primo, with virtually no complex rhythms and it is in C major. :frown: I don't have any duet books at home, and my teacher doesn't seem to have any of the right standard.

Ideally, I want it to be at the lowest grade/level while still getting full difficulty marks. Around Grade 4-5, I guess. Could you recommend me some pieces? Something I can learn quite quickly and would be suitable for the GCSE? Some specific books & links would be helpful. Thanks!!

Nothing like leaving it until (nearly) the night before. :p:

Why a duet might I ask?

And also, if you really want it to be a duet, do you have another player? Who is available to play through with you and in the exam?

As for music, you should really be playing something your comfortable with and familiar with so picking up something now isn't going to help. Sorry.

Best thing to do is to look at music first hand.

Take a trip to your local music library (I work at one in Bournemouth) and take a peek at their piano music.

That way you're seeing it first hand and if they have a piano and headphones available and a quick play before you take any music out.

BUT, for Lordys sake, please don't take photocopies into your exam (apart from the ones you're giving the examiner).

Sorry I can't help more, there might be someone else who can though....

I remember thinking that the piano duet I did for my GCSE recital was far too easy for the difficulty level, but we got full marks for it. If I were you I'd trust your teacher on the matter.

Diabelli Sonatines?

You don't need something really difficult.

Well, the one I've got now is the Jugendfreuden - pleasures for youth on five notes. The primo part is too easy; by easy I mean around Grade 2. I suppose I could try the secondo part... could you be able to post a direct link to something that's appropriate? (preferably on musicroom.com) I'm having trouble finding one!

I'll be playing duets, because I play piano and it is not in the orchestra/band. I have also never accompanied before, so I don't think I'd want to do that for the first time! I'd play the duet with my school music teacher. And I doubt she'd mind photocopies; she does them all the time after all...

How about a Sonata, where the piano and other instrument have equal weight? That's not like accompanying, no more than the other instrument has to. I play violin+piano sonatas with a friend and they are meant to be perfect for GCSE Music. There are some beautiful Mozart ones, from grade 3-post 8 for piano. The you could just ask a violin taecher from your school to play the other part. Just a thought
