Windsor Hall

Basically, applied for this as my first hall. Is it any good? Don't suppose anyone has any photos?

I'm still not sure though, might change to Wantage after hearing it's so good. What bothered me was the "off campus" location. Is it a pain walking there and back all the time? Also I hear the rooms for the new people are pretty crap and round the back, without wash basins... is that a big problem do you think? Again, photos if anyone has would be great.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated:smile:

Windsor is much better in terms of location, its about another 10 mins at least. Doesn't sound like much, but when you've got to walk to the other side of campis (20 mins), it gets annoying!

Windsor has the best food on campus. Woo.

Yeah, I was talking to someone about it. Apparently the JCR is getting renovated too?

Hey, what's the deal on the wash basins? Do you have to pay each time you want to wash clothes?

Plus, what about rooms sans wash basins - where do they go to wash clothes? And how much does it usually cost? Because if it's free for all, I'd rather save money and get a room without a wash basin.

Why are you planning to wash stuff in your sink?

No you're not charged per time you use the sink, but in every hall you have to pay to use the washing machines.

Yes the JCR is being renovated. Got a sexy new LCD tv outisde the dining room

Hey, don't worry about the off-campus location - it's no problem at all, only a five minute walk to the edge of campus at most. Obviously if you do something like land management or meteorology then it's a bit more of a trek, but not much. You're right that most 1st-years get put in New Court (the 1970s block round the back), but it honestly isn't bad. The majority of rooms have washbasins, so don't worry about that. And even if you do end up with a room without a washbasin (as I did) then it really isn't the end of the world. For a start you save £100 a term! The rooms are decent-sized, though not as big as some of the rooms in Old Quad.

Hmm. I think because I'm lazy I'll pick Windsor (closest and all...) and in my third year I'll give Wantage a go if I like the look of it (hopefully I'll befriend some people from over there...)

They showed us Childs.

Mind you, my mate went the other day and said Windsor looked like a right dungeon, falling apart and all. But then again, he's more cynical than I am when it comes to these things...
