Shouldn't your optician have told you that? I don't actually know what it means, so ring your optician up and they'll tell you.

Unless someone smart here knows?
It will probably have been 5/6. This means that if an object is placed 60metres away, you can read it from 50metres. (You could say 6metres away and so you can read it from 5metres.)

I don't believe that this is anything to worry about, as very few people have 60/60 or 6/6. If you have glasses, they will probably correct the problem, but even if you don't have glasses it isn't too bad.
isnt 20/20 vision perfect? In that case your quite low down the scale
erm i believe it might be to do with those lines you read i.e you can read 5 of 6 lines, i recently had my eyesight checked for military application and got 5/7 cause i could read 5 lines out of the total number of 7, but i would agree with ringing your optician and checking
I'm informed that the second number is at what distance a normal healthy eye can read, and the first number is at what distance you can read the same thing
. So with mine of 6/5 I can read at 6m what a normal eye would be expected to read at 5m.
hmm wonder what mine is, probably minus something, i can never read anything off the board lol

That's correct. 6/6 is the metric version of 20(ft)/20(ft).

Hey guys,
Just wondering about eyesight. I had an eyetest the other day and was told my eyesight is 6/5 (or 5/6?) in both eyes.... Can anyone actually explain what this means though? I was looking on Google but cannot find any explanation. If anyone can point me to a guide I'd 'preciate it.

i wouldnt worry too much, i'm -7.0 which i'm pretty sure should equal practically blind.
