My G.P. wasn't very helpful to my problem!!!

Hey guys.
I'm male.
18 years 6 months old
5 ft. 7 inch. height
53 kg weight.
-
I made an appointment with my G.P. today about my height problem. My height really bothers me since all my mates are way taller than me, and especially I'm a guy:frown: !
I sought for an advice to my G.P. but he made me feel very hopeless when he said, 'just accept it...it's because of stunted growth...':frown:
Then i went, 'I think the NHS offers growth hormone therapy or something like that to treat this problem'. Then he just said there's no such thing as that:redface: !
I'm currently upset about that.
-
I didn't increase in height & weight for the last three years!
The surprising bit is that I eat 5 times a day (balanced diet), and I think I've already stopped from growing!
-
Shall I just change G.P. practice/surgery? Was my G.P. right? Any of you experiencing this kind of problem? I know, probably, most of you don't care about your height, but I am!!!
'
Please help me by giving your advice! I need it. Thank you very much:tsr2:

Hey hey slow down, i'm 24 and only 5 feet 7 but that don't bother me being short has its advantages as well, growth horomone isn't reliable either, its not a problem just people grow to different lengths, some people will be short unfortunatly and some people will be really tall. You gotta make the best of it.

Well height is genetic isn't it, so how tall are your family members? Seriously though, I wouldn't have said that's that short for a guy, most of my (female)mates are about 5'4 so there's a definite difference between you and them.Plus you may still be growing??

My dad's 6 ft 1 inch tall I think & my mum's 5 ft. 6 inch. tall.
People say that you stop from growing until 22 ( i think - not sure), and I'm 18.
Why won't my G.P. let me try them growth hormones then! Besides, several children who aren't growing properly have taken those & as a result, it corrected their height to ave.!

You're not that small- I'm just really tall- nearly 18 year old girl and I'm 5 foot 11.5!

So? Everyone stops growing at a different age. You're NOT abnormal by any means. Nor do you need growth hormones, you just want them, hence why your doc is reluctant.

Dear god, you dont have a height problem. You're just shorter than average. Growth hormones are for people who really need them, not those who would rather be a couple of inches taller

Try not to worry about it, i don't think there is alot your GP can do about it to be honest, something along the lines of 5ft 7 isn't really that small. (Well..although i'm 6ft3, you don't want to be too tall, think of the back problems. :-()

well, quite aside from the expense of growth hormones theres the small issue of massively increasing your risk of heart failure as you get older, plus aneurysms, aortic dissections (particularly lovely, a chest pain that feels like someone sawing through your chest. then you die.) and a variety of other conditions as some organs respond to the growth hormone more than others, and simply grow too big, or just go awol on the functioning front.
And then theres the big increase in cancer.

But yeah, sure, he should let you go for it because you're short.
you need self esteem help, not height help.
obviously he was too overworked to spend the proper time telling you this, and thought it easier just to fob you off.

And FYI - most of the people that originally got growth hormoe in the 1970s and 1980s are long dead, be it from diseases just mentioned, or vCJD.

hey relax, im 19 year-old male and have a heigh of 5"65 and weigh 55 kg, and i havent got much muscle. u are normal

ps maybe cos of my origin, im chinese and my father was as thin as im now when he was at my age
I have a friend who has had growth hormones, he is about 5ft4 at a guess now - sadly a few things responded differently. This means he has big hands and feet (size 8 he tells me for example) for his size which looks slightly odd but more importantly, he has a very unusual voice.
squirly

Thanks a lot guys... I shouldn't worry too much about my height then.
**stands proud, chin up** woohoo I'm short:smile:! Beat that!
five foot seven is not unusually short. I wouldn't even think about growth hormones unless you're less than five foot.
I think doing excercise that involves jumping might help, i.e basketball and skipping
Nah, don't worry about it at all. I'm male, 18, 5'9 and 51kg, and I am well toned.

I have friends who are 16 and 17 who are just over 5' (female) and ones just over 5'4 (male).

And I'll tell you this though, you can fit in a Ford GT-40, tall people can't :p:
How strange, you go from not being able to speak english properly to then being able to. If I went to my GP, he'd laugh even tho I'm 5 foot and haven't grown in years. They have better things to worry about, like treating people with dibilitating problems, terminal illness......

Just get your own growth hormone, start shooting it like theres no tomorrow and hope you grow.

hey i had the same problem except im female.. i was told that i could get growth hormone, and i went to a growth specialist etc etc after getting my hopes up in the 5/6 weeks before the appointment, before being told there was nothing they could do. i guess some people are tall, some are short, some fat.. some thin. I guess the world would be boring without a bit of variation!

in't that what led to the premature of dozens of cheating athletes?
within a few years they had gone from running the 100m in 10 seconds to not bein able to walk 100m wihout a few rest breaks.
