Get a grain of salt, and press it on the ulcer. It stings, but removed the ulcer.

Anbesol works for me. If you do not have that, then get some salt and pour some in water. Take a sip, BUT DO NOT SWALLOW IT. Just rinse it round your mouth (especially the ulcer). It may sting for a few seconds but it numbs the ulcer for a couple of hours. Repeat when it hurts again.

Anbesol stopped working properly yesterday :frown:

I tried the salt in water - maybe I got the dilution wrong??

How much salt-water?

Presumably as much as it takes, short of having to subsequently pry individual grains out from between one's teeth.

I pour quite a lot in mine. Id suggest pouring the salt in first and making a little note of how much worked, then you know how much to use. Or if it does not work, you then know you need to add more.

Sod the water, just get a small grain of the salt, and press it against the ulcer. okay it stings for a few seconds, but it goes instantly.
Early nights and watermelon frost (chinese herbal treatment)

I went for the 1 part TCP, 5 parts water method and it went in two days. It's like a mouthwash.
The salt method didn't work.
The lemon method made it double in size.
It's gone now, so my faith is in TCP and its 'pain soothing' nature.

I'm really prone to mouth ulcers myself and personally I swear by bonjela. Since mouth ulcers can be aggravated by being run down have you also tried a few early nights/ some vitamin supplements? Zinc is meant to be good for helping to build up the immune system...
I get mouth ulcers all the time, so I know that they can be a b*tch.

I don't really find that any medicines help me - I pile on Bonjela till my mouth is numb but it seems to do nothing, and as for those things that are like sand, its unrealistic to be able to have that stay on that spot in your mouth for a long period of time.

Personally if I have a mouth ulcer, or feel one coming on (I can feeling one coming on now actually!) I pile myself up with vitamins, and fruit and veg. Mouth ulcers are caused by poor diet, and especially lack of vitamins (although in your case it does sound like its something to do with you're wisdom tooth).
But if I have a mouth ulcer I buy some multi-vitamins and take one a day (or even two) and then I eat as much fruit as I can. It actually hurts to eat fruit because it is so sweet and acidy on the ulcer, but it's that type of pain where you feel like it's doing good (if that makes sense)

I find that this works a treat and the ulcer is gone in a few days.

The Watermelon Frost is a new one to me - is it good? Must try that in future!

EDIT: Also worth mentioning that you need to have a clean mouth as much as possible to stop bacteria getting into it, so brush you're teeth and rinse as often as you can throughout the day

I've tried most things here and its still there!!!!

Went to the doctors yesterday, and she said it looked particularily nasty, and looked like herpes (but not sexually related) shes put me on some antivirals (Aciclovir)

So - I havnt been able to eat anything except some soup through a straw since Thursday - So Im starting to look pretty weedy.

And to inconvienience myself further - it appears when I was on painkillers - which did nothing for the ulcer pain - I managed to bite a considerable amount of skin off both lips, so now they are swollen and very painful, with big white patches on.

Just thought I'd voice my pain :frown:

Bonjela does nothing for me - I've been getting mouth ulcers for about 20 years now so I think I've become immune! My dentist gave me a mouthwash to help get rid of them, but I still get them regularly and it doesn't seem to reduce the amount of time they stick around. Still, if I had cold sores as much as I get mouth ulcers I'd really be depressed, so that's something to be grateful for I suppose!
