Going to the gym is better than doing recreational drugs - bear that in mind.

I've been going 4 times a week too but i don't think its an addiction, unless you go 7 times a week...

I don't want to lose any muscle but I think im going way too much ive been doing 4 times a week for the past few months.

Going 4 times a week is far from an obsession. I aim for at least 4 times per week.

Cool, my mum said im gonna do some damage going 4 times p/w and my mates only go about once so I didn't know really. I see other guys who are there all the time though they are probably training for something.

Professional Sports men will probably only go to the gym 4 days a week, with the rest of the training on other things. Maybe more than one session on those days though.

I'm thinking rugby here.

You've got to go 4 times a week in order to justify the fees in the first place.

Yea a lot of rugby training will be on the field, but still it seems quite a lot considering Im not actually training for anything.

I wouldn't worry about it. Your training to keep fit, and if you get fitter - it's a bonus.

You haven't got an obsession. Just because you've been regularly doesn't make you obsessed. By those standards, thousands and thousands of people are obsessed and doing a "bad thing".

However, body-building can lead to narcissism. Some guys who are into body-building (I know a couple) can act very weird: one gets incredibly irritated, almost loses it, if he can't eat as soon as he feels a bit hungry, or will start worrying his muscles are deflating.

i reckon you're ok, but it is addictive. Geri Haliwell got addicted to exercise and wrote an article about it. Apparently if it gets to the point where you feel other things in your life (e.g work, school or something) are getting in the way of you going to the gym, you've got a bit of a problem... I'm addicted to the adrenaline surge more than anything, I go to de-stress and it really lifts my mood.

Reply 12

I don't think its a problem at all. Don't worry about it. Maybe if you can't miss a day, or become obsessive about it, well, then thats the time to worry

Reply 13

i wish i was addicted, lol.

Going to the gym for three days, a week is very fine...since the exercised muscles need 48 hours to recuperate from the stress and strain of that days exercise.

However ultimately you exercise to keep fit and impress people...but how many people go to the gym so that they can help neighbors carry their baggage..

thats so true

Reply 16

If you've gotta proper workout plan then 4 times a week is good. Otherwise you may be overtraining.

Reply 17

or maybe your obsession is really another word for a hobby

Reply 18

You should always have 1 days rest after 1 days workout.

So over two weeks it would be:

Mon - Gym
Tues - Rest
Wed - Gym
Thurs - Rest
Frid - Gym
Sat - Rest
Sun - Gym

Mon - Rest
Tues - Gym
Wed - Rest
Thurs - Gym
Fri - Rest
Sat - Gym
Sun - Rest

Then rinse and repeat

lol sorry for pointing out the obvious there, got carried away :p:
