Then I truly pity you :frown:

I understand you may have a blocked view of what the books about because of your own experiences, but the book just simply is not about abuse like that.

Its annoying though because there is actually a lot of really good fanfiction writers out there that write stories that really do deserve to get published yet fail to and somehow this piece of rubbish manages to get published and famous.

It does a great job of enforcing the stereotype that all people with sexual "perversions" were abused as kids.

Yes, I've also been told that it gives a completely wrong image of BDSM and sub/dom relationships. I quote:

That series is not a good model for a healthy, consensual, supportive BDSM/impact play relationship.

That series disregards the feelings of Ana. That series disregards safe words. It is a very problematic series and not one to be learned from.

I can't link the source, unfortunately.

I myself haven't read the book, but I've read some excerpts. Man, aren't they funny.
I'll just leave some here, to show you how hilarious it is.

“His voice is warm and husky like dark melted chocolate fudge caramel… or something.”

“My inner goddess jumps up and down with cheer-leading pom-poms shouting yes at me.”

"My inner goddess is going the merengue with some salsa moves.”

These are all actual quotes.
And I think I can stop here. Too bad I can't quote the more explicit ones, because there are some that leave me rolling on the floor laughing, but you can easily find them if you google them.
I will not be reading it. I don't like how ASDA have a massive stand of about 100 of the books next to all the children's toys and books. I also HATE how everyone has to write a Facebook status about how they are reading it.
What annoys me is that I have seen a lot of people on facebook reading the books, and these people would usually be the ones saying 'Oh I hate reading' 'reading is boring' etc... And then a porn book comes out and apparently everyone loves to read!

This is coming from a girl who constantly reads and gets weird looks in college, just for reading. Getting asked stupid questions like 'why do you read?'

Those people are just dumb. The typical kind that like to jump on the bandwagon of hype.

I overheard some women saying "who needs a vibrator when you have 50SOG." I was like ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

This may sound weird, but does anyone know why it's called 50 Shades of Grey? I haven't read it, but is there some sort of significance of the title? Did they meet in the paint section of Homebase or something?

When something is very crude or explicit it'll be regarded as "50 shades of grey"

The main guy in it is called Christian Grey and she nicknames him 50 shades because he has so many sides to him...

She refers to him as "Fifty Shades of Messed Up" at some point, and then keeps referring to him as "Fifty Shades" for much of the rest of the series. The Grey part is presumably referring to his name.
