Removing a big-ish mole from your face

I have this big-ish mole on the side on my face. I’ve had it since I was born. It doesn’t really bother me. Although, some people in school would tease me about it sometimes. I was just wondering, if I were to go to the doctors, and get it removed. How would they do it? And would it leave a scar? Being it’s on my face, I don’t want a noticeable scar left.

Any input would be great
I'm not sure. My mother had a malignant melanoma (in the form of a mole-thing) removed from her back and that left a scar. She didn't get a proper anesthetic either, just a local *ouch*
I've had it done twice and they leave big-ish scars, but you feel no pain during the op, and only a tiny amount of stinging afterwards for a couple of days at most - it's usually just a little uncomfortable and nothing more though. The fact it leaves a decent-sized scar shouldn't matter too much if it's on the side of your face, like mine were. The scar is well worth it.

They inject a local anaesthetic into the immediate area, then cut it out (and it goes DEEP!). All you feel is a load of tugging though. Then they sew it up, and you get the stitches removed about a week later.

Ive had three moles removed completely by having them cut it out through all the layers of skin. They left quite big scars especially the 2 on my arm.

But I had a very large ugly mole on my neck which I had sliced off with a laser, they did not remove the root, they just cut the head off and left me with a scab which healed into pink flat circle the size of the mole. Its much less noticable and not like a scar. I would recommend this method rather than full removal if its on your face.

But also I would be careful about removing moles on your face, you can always get it done later in life when you have more money to spend on getting someone really good to do it, the quality of the dermatologist/plastic surgeon has a big impact on how large the scar or mark left behind will be. Also in 10 years time the tools and techniques will also doubtlessly have improved further.

The main factor in the noticeability of scats is the size and quantity of the stitches. The more stitches the less the scar. The better the surgeon, the better the results. The better the surgeon, the more money. You get what you pay for.

:ditto: Although I don't know how deep it goes. Either way it doesn't hurt and the scar is small and white so if you're pale it's really not that noticeable. I have one in my face too and you can't really tell.

EDIT: have it done at a dermatologists. Thing is they make you come over three times, once just to look at it, second time to do the op and a third for the stitches. Although actually I think you can go to the doctor for the stitches as well so that should be free of charge in England then.

Do you have to pay to have moles removed then?
unless its malignant, I would imagine so. it isnt a health issue, its a cosmetic one.
