Am I eating too much fruit?

No I'm not joking...

Basically, I eat loads and loads of fruit and was wondering if there were any drawbacks. I know fruit is low in fat and calories, but could I be damaging my teeth with all the sugar and acid you get in it? Occasionally it gets to over 10 pieces a day (mainly apples and pears, sometimes oranges as well) and always at least 5 - this is on top of veg, which I also have every day, though not in such large quantities! I tend to snack when I'm working, so naturally thought it would better to be eating fruit than say chocolate, but still - I can't help but wonder if I'm going over the top! It's getting rather expensive too....

Yeah 10 pieces a day is too much. Fair one, it wont kill you buts its a bit too much. Especially if its the same thing like 3-4 apples a day.

Its an apple a day that keeps the doctor away, not a bag of apples.

 I did actually have a whole bag yesterday!

Yeah I though it was too much, though to be fair it's usually more like 5 or 6 than 10.

Thanks anyway!

Still, eating too much fruit is better than eating too many cheeseburgers down mcdonalds.

True

Don't see what the big deal is. You are obviously hungry - so that says somehting about your diet in general. You may need more fibre and more complex carbs to keep you feeling fuller for longer. Try drinking more water as well. Anyhow, I don't see what is wrong with eating plenty of fruit - obviously it is extra calories, but so long as your not over eating and putting on weight then it should be ok (unless that is your goal of course). Try having some nuts - the fats in them will help you feel satisified also. But beware they are calorie dense.

No big deal, I was just wondering.

My diet in general is very good, and though I used to be terrible about drinking (ie. I could go two days before I'd remember I'd not drunk anything), in the last fortnight I've had about 1.5-2 litres a day. Maybe I'm just greedy!

Well of course it is you idiot. But eating "too" much fruit is not good for you also. Too much of anything is not good for you, you'll end up having too much of one thing and not enough of the other.

I was recently warned by my dentist not to drink too much fruit juice - it's healthy, but acidic and sugary (fructose), which is the worst possible combination if you're a tooth. I imagine the same thing applies to solid fruit. She suggested limiting it to mealtimes or, if I have fruit/fruit juice between meals, not brushing straight away afterwards (something to do with damaging the enamel) but using mouthwash instead...

I don't think it's too much, I eat loads of fruit, but to add a bit of variety you could try cutting up some carrot, celery or red pepper sticks or something to take to work instead of just fruit. That way it would be less acidic and kinder on the teeth.

No no no no it IS too much! Gillian McKeith said something about it in 'you are what you eat'. It causes alot of wind or something like that. I dunno, but this is too much i think.
i'm wondering how much you drink during the day? because up to a bag of apples is indicating serious snack hunger, which can sometimes be misinterpreted thirst. so if you up your intake of water (or milk), its possible that you will need to eat less fruit.
also - you can snack on other things, too! its not only fruit thats good for snacking on. nuts & seeds are good, although some nuts are high in calories if that's something you keep an eye on (personally i am more fussed about the actual health values than the energy it gives me).
also try to vary your intake of fruit a little more - do you like bananas? they're a little higher in carbs, so may make you feel fuller. or having a bunch of grapes by you during the day may be good for snacking on & making you feel like you've eaten more when really the volume of food (and thus sugar & acid on your teeth!) is less.

i wouldn't worry too much about this unless your teeth are showing signs of notable decay or your "bowel movements" start getting more fluid. if neither of these symptoms are present, i would say that your diet is as balanced as it currently needs to be.
jut make sure you're getting enough fibre aswell - eat cereals

In my opinion, yes it is too much. However, ask a decent nutritionist, and they'll tell you people in parts of the world have been eating a diet that high in fruit for years. The 5-a-day target is both fruit and veg, so try to cut down to about 3 servings of each. Also, fill up with complex carbs (as someone before said) such as cereals, sweet potatoes, etc.

All that said, I'd rather eat ten pieces of fruit a day than ten chocolate bars/bags of crisps/etc.
As far as l can see the only thing that could be slightly dodgey about so much fruit is the pressure it'll put on your bals, but if ur not getting 'caught short' l doubt you should worry
I don't think having too much fruit will harm you too much, you'd know yourself if you had the runs! Only if you're cutting out food groups + only eating fruit is it a big problem. I'm trying to diet at the moment and inbetween breakfast and dinner only eating fruit and salad. I normally eat far too much junk food + have to eat little and often otherwise I'll just give up + reach for the chocolate. So I end up eating a lot of fruit throughout the day but am feeling better for it.
Simple answer if it makes you feel bad- it's too much, if you feel fine- smile!

Look, you bunch of apple eating freaks of nature... eating "too" much fruit is not good for you, it wont kill but its not good for you. My f**king brother is a nutrionist and personal trainer and I asked him about it before I posted my first reply. And guess what..... HE SAID ITS NOT GOOD FOR YOU SO STOP SAYING IT IS!!! (some of you)

Fruit contains a lot of fibre, which is nice to flush out your digestive system.

The only drawback is that you might need the loo a lot.
