All I can think of is what the guests on jerry springer often shout.

"YOU dont know me"

SO bugger them, they dont actually know you. You certainly wouldnt want to be friends with people like that, so why even entertain their ignorant ways and let them think that they get to you.

People do things for a reaction, if they get no reaction from you they'll get bored and try and do something else destructive elsewhere.

Can you please be specific? What happened? How did you respond? How old are you? IM me if you want to speak privately, but only if you seriously want to talk about it.

Thanks for that you'll find I have added you to my +rep list, so in the next couple of days when you are mysteriously repped you may know why

Also to the other poster, what happened was that I punched the person that said something mean to me. It was a bit uncalled for, and I am ashamed ok?

That and because I'm a girl's girl it was a bit out of the ordinary for me!!

What did this person say, if you don't mind me asking? Was it in a public place (street, store) or a more personal place (dorm, etc)? Do you think that you will encounter that person again? Have you ever encountered racism before?

I have but my dad has usually stepped in, in the past, and dealt with it for me :p:

Also I was kind of spoilt + pampered as a little girl, oh and sheltered too so I'm NOT used to people being rude to me. Have started work in promotions/do some bar work as well, so am well and truly out there now. With no parental support.

If you ever hit someone again for being racist and get caught by the police, always tell them that they hit you first, and tell them the racist remarks. You can never get in trouble for something that you do in self defense. next time if you do something like that just leave : ) dont hang around or give your name.

Working in bars, know the feeling. I'm 'Black' and I worked in a bar/club, in the South, in the US and it wasn't pretty either. Liquor and ignorance doesn't mix well. It's going to be offensive and hurtful at times, but you need to learn to have thicker skin. Punching that person in a way wasn't wise but then again it'll teach others not to disrespect you (I'm not advocating violence to get respect). Do you mind me asking what 'race'/ethnicity you are and what country or city you live in?
