Good luck!

I did Grade VII Piano and my aural was a disaster. When I did the lower-part singing test my examiner looked as though he was about to be physically sick. ("Let's move on"...)

Reply 24

Nah haven't found out yet....

I could never sing back the lower part memory thing

MikeyB!
I could never sing back the lower part memory thing

I just try to get the rhythm correct as I have a vocal range of about 1.5 notes!!

Suspense is killing me, let alone you Mikey!!!

I hated my grade 8 aural last year, I made most of it up, scraped a 13/18 ,but looking at the comments I should not have passed the aural section, I got most of it totally wrong hehe!!!

Reply 27

Apparantly if you get half right, they give you 12/18, which makes no sense to me :s-smilie: And you cant get full marks unless you answer confidently throughout.

Reply 28

i remember in the first and last piano exam i ever did, i managed to get below minimum pass marks in both my aural and my scales! i was distraught!
but the final result wasn't too bad, because i got nearly full marks on my peices and sight-reading

When he asked for the period, I said "classicerrbaroque". Sounded like classic rock. Luckily he asked me to repeat

I know somebody who said that the piece was from X era "because it was played on the piano". That person is actually a good musician and instantly regretted that answer, given presumably because of exam nerves!

Reply 31

Oops!!

If you actually just attempt the aural tests then they have to give you 6/18. There is a mark scheme that I have for it. Higher marks are awarded for accuracy (obviously) and confidence in the answers.

Getting 12/18 for half right is incorrect in my view, I have had half of it right before and got more than that.

''Loves Mozart, Einaudi and Rachmaninov!!''

Sigh... :p:

Reply 33

Shut. Up.

 :p:

Reply 34

See if you get half right you should get 9/18 surely!?

Gah

Reply 35

Nope. Have you seen the booklet or pdf file called These Music Exams written by Clara Taylor? It sets out quite clearly what is needed for each section of marks.

Reply 36

:O nope, never....

This looks helpful

Great help now...

A friend got her results back Friday March 31st...quite surprising there is such a range gap between her results and yours...
