Hi, I'm going to be studying biomedical science this year and I was wondering if there are any textbooks I should try and get hold of? Or do you get given books at the start of the course?

Even if I don't need to buy any, are there any books that you'd recommend for me to read in preparation?

Thank you! :-)

No need to buy any yet, and no you're not given any (actually, if they still do it your tutor may give you a compendium in case you want to go over anything A Level). I'd recommend buying a couple after the introductory lectures - most lecturers will suggest which books they'd recommend for the course - so buy them then.

If you can find them in your library then a recommend a look through of 'Principles of Biochemistry' by Lehninger. It may also be a worth look through 'Biology' by Campbell. However, if you can't find them, don't worry. If you can, don't panic if you don't understand a clue of what some of it says :p:

I'm a 2nd year Biologist going into my 3rd year - any questions, just ask. Our courses share nearly all the modules. :yy:

I've just finished my first year doing Biochemistry. I agree with Champagne Supernova, if you can find it 'Principles of Biochemistry' is really useful and will be recommended for two of the modules. Silverthorn's 'Human Physiology' and Alberts's 'Essential Cell Biology' will also be strongly recommended
