Has anybody actually had any problems with this area? I have traveled through Moss Side probably about 8000 times now and I have not once witnessed any crime. Why is it people think its the roughest part of Manchester when its not? A lot of East Manchester is far more dangerous.

Moss Side is rough but only as rough as an average innercity area.

Hahaha, my step dad said it's the worst area ever!

Moss Side is has a population of 50% of black people, the rest are mixture of asians and whites. There were riots against the police in 1981 which gave the area bad press. Its not that rough now though and there are lot of new appartments being built.

When people on here mention Manchester they often seem scared of Moss Side and quite frankly it makes me laugh. There far more dangerous places in Manchester to be scared of.

I'm a Man City supporter so until recently I used to go to moss side quite a lot (roughly once every two weeks  ). However, I live within walking distance from Moss Side at the moment, and I've never really noticed any trouble. There are far worse places in Manchester nowadays.

Moss City? you mean Moss Side? Its an innercity area of Manchester near the university. Its similar to Brixton in London.

Yeah the moss side reputation is quite funny actually. I've told people I'm from moss side for a laugh in the past and it's funny to see how they react. Usually by walking very slowly and cautiously away from you...

old trafford is pretty rough

Old Trafford is very mixed. The part near the football ground is rough but the Chorlton/Whalley Range end is not so bad, a terrace house would cost more than £100k in that part. Old Trafford is a very mixed area though, a lot of it actually borders the rougher part of Moss Side.

I haven't been there since I lived in Hulme years ago. Hated the place. But I agree that east manchester is possibly worst. People rave about sportcity and I don't know why, it's an absolute complete and utter shithole, if that's the product of extensive regeneration, I can't imagine what it must have been like before.

The area is still being regenerated though. Loads of new flats are being built right now. All they need to do is knock down the entire eastlands estate and the place will be great.

But even the regenerated areas look absolutely pants, the stadium, asda-walmart, etc, they're supposed to be the nice areas, the only way it would be nice is if they demolished the entire area, got some bloody grass in there, and built high quality buildings. There's no point in having hundreds of buildings designed to last 15 years max.

I went to college in East Manchester and the area in general really is not nice. It makes Salford seem like a posh part of Mancheaster in camparison.

I know what you mean, Its like Brisbanes "The Valley" or properly Fortitude Valley, but it's all asians and yuppies and to the north of the suburb, prostitute central. Its a popular game for us to play going through there on an evening, "Spot the prostie". Nah, I love the Valley though, it's mad.
