Ollie : econometrics (is it so awful ?)

I don't actually do Econometrics but most of my friends do it and as far as i know, they don't find it particularly hard - they're always on the computer doing statistical-style analysis.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh now that makes sense. :smile:

Alright, I'll definitely be picking AC100 up in my 2nd/3rd year.

Advice from the seniors is invaluable. :biggrin:

I'm back for 10 minutes or so, incase you were wondering what i'm doing here lol. But yer, taking AC100 in your 2nd/3rd year makes much more sense and I wish I had done the same. I originally thought Dassios was just being a bit anti-Accounting when he was plugging MA103, but now I understand why.
Anybody doing AC100 in the second year will laugh at how easy it is. It's no more difficult than an Alevel subject. :tongue: Congrats on making the right choice people~ (and for everybody reading this...well at least now you know how to get an easy first class)

Econometrics probably depends on whether you do introductory or principles...since I don't find stats terribly exciting nor am I going to do a MSc or anything, hence I think I'll go down the very popular easy 'introductory' route :biggrin:

Could you folks just take a quick look at http://www.lse.ac.uk/resources/undergraduateProspectus2007/courses/Government/LL12.htm?

First year:

* Economics B
* Basic Mathematics for Economists or Quantitative Methods
* Introduction to Political Science or Introduction to Political Theory
* One Government or outside option

Second year:

* Microeconomic Principles
* Macroeconomic Principles
* Introduction to Political Theory or Introduction to Political Science or Government option
* Public Choice and Politics

Third year:

* One Government option
* One Economics option
* One Government, Economics or outside option

Why do we only do 3 modules in the 3rd year?

Oh, and what other modules would you recommend be taken in the 2nd/3rd year? :biggrin:

Well, I wish I'd done AC100 in my first year because I'd wanted to do AC300 (or something) in my third year. That's Corporate Finance and Financial Markets. Can't do it because I'd have to do AC200 for that, which I normally would've taken in my second year (I suppose I'll do it in my third year).

As regards to the choices between EC201 and EC202, I picked EC201 as I'm more interested in the application of Economic theories.

I picked EC220 (The easier one) since I probably won't be able to handle more stats than I absolutely have to!

That'll be a mistake. You will do 4 modules in your final year, like you do for every year in every subject, but they've just forgotten to mention the 4th option. If its anything like the 2005 system, you'll be doing 2 government options, 1 economics option, and 1 free option where you can do anything (with approval of course).

Right, thanks.

I'll drop the LSE folks letting them know of the error. =)

Update, I contacted LSE, and they replied.

...

Thankyou for your email. On checking we discovered to our surprise and consternation that you were right and I have taken immediate corrective action -- the website should be amended very soon, if it has not already been. I will not bore you with my speculation about how this came about but I think I know. You will find that the course Public Choice and Politics actually has to be taken in the second year -- it was always intended that it be a core course for this degree and it has been compulsory from this year. If both introductory government courses are taken in the first year there is a possibility of an outside option in the second year however. In the third year four courses must be taken: two from Government, one from Economics with the fourth possibly involving an outside option.

...

Just a FYI. :smile:
Well done mate :smile: So its exactly as I said, with the difference being the outside option they missed out for the 3rd year yer?

I think it's supposed to be two government options in the 3rd year, instead of the stated one.
