Weight loss is a funny old stick.

For those who know me from the Religion board, this thread is going to be extremely out of context...

Oh well.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice for weight loss and muscle build.

Reasonably big am I, a little overweight. My 'diets' and weight training have, historically, come in ebbs and flows but I have typically responded well to both.

I usually run about 2 miles, and have (as most guys do) a pair of dumbells for casual use.

Any suggestions? Anything at all. Open people.

Thanks for that. Do I need to buy cloud insurance, whilst I'm at it?

Go to a gym, like a proper weight-lifting gym. Seriously, most people are friendly and will help out with lotsa advice for increasing your muscle mass and decreasing your fat, since they should all be interested too.

(This is what my dad/cousins have told me. I'm a girl, so not really into that myself).
Well, you could stop being a pussy and run more than 2 miles for a start. You need to physically beast yourself, start upping the distance, or at least the speed if you dont run that fast. I often run 8 miles a day due to my job, its not that hard and only takes an hour after a few goes.

Have a look at what you eat and portion sizes. avoid foods that are high in fat, like cheese. only have small portions of these, or switch cheddar for cottage cheese.
make sure you eat proper meals, try and avoid ready meals and takeaways. a lot of ready meals have a low calorie content, but dont really fill you up, so you eat more later.
What do you snack on? try not to snack on chocolate, crisps and biscuits, and have fruit or youghurt instead.
Have wholemeal pasta, rice and bread instead of white. its much better for you.
Try not to have lots of pastry. i know pies and danish pastries are nice, but they are really fattening! which is such a shame, i love pecan and maple danish's!
Switch to low fat foods, have light mayo and butter and skimmed or semi-skimmed milk instead of full fat.
If you find yourself getting hungry in between meals, try eating 5 or 6 small meals a day, instead of 3 larger ones. things like salad, corn on the cob, fruit salad and fish are good.
If you drink a lot of fizzy drinks, switch to the diet variety, if possible cut them out althogether, as theyre really bad for your teeth.
Alcohol is really fattening, instead of beer have spirits and a slimline mixer or diet coke.
count calories obsessively....try and cut out 500-1000 calories from your average daily intake.... make sure you burn off more energy than you consume.

Get yourself a book called 'the abs diet', I dont have it with me at the mo so cant give you isbn num or anything but will post again when I get it back. Its got loads of information on various excercises to do, many of which do not require a gym or even weights, but when done properly give max results in short time. It also has lists of type of foods to eat, and also food the auther calls 'power foods' these are basically foods that maintain muscle and help to burn fat.

Avoid anything with saturated fats, the body doest need it and it just get 'stored' ie becomes flab! stick to monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. Also attempt to do as many push ups and sit ups as poss each day, or every other day, as this is still by far one of the best (and cheapest) ways to increase upper body muscle mass and burn fat.

Remember, muscles burn calories even when you are sitting or lying down doing nothing, so finding ways to improve muscle content will naturally lead to loss of fat. Eat plently of low fat high protein foods if muscle mass is of great importants to you. Try a protein drink each day, whey protein works best.

Oh n drink plenty of water, NO carbonated (ie coke) drinks WHAT SO EVER!! And if, like me, you get hungry between meals snack on fruit, pumkin seeds or nuts but only have sweet once in a while as a treat.

Im very much like you, own weights etc and my diet/weights is in ebs an flows but recently Ive tried to stick to low fat high protein n lots of water, n so far so good.

was that before or after China stole it back?

Well Hong Kong reverted back to China in 1997. Unless his parents are nine years old or younger, they must have been born before the handover.
