The practice by my house were advertising for a trainee vacancy. Maybe you should go into your local practice and explain that you're doing the course and if they'll let you do yours with them?

Hi,
I just had my interview as a trainee dental nurse and got the job on the spot.
They will likely want you to start as soon as possible.
Skills include working under pressure, good time keeping, good fine motor skills and patience.
My job as a nursery nurse actually helped a lot with this as my job there required me to be patient, have good communication skills, good fine motor, patience and to cope with working in stressful conditions.
Always ask about staff turnover because it gives you insight to the practice itself, I've went for a smaller practice and funnily enough I will be working along side my childhood dentist as I am also a patient there.
You will get a release day every two weeks to go to a college. My course is based at the hospital in the dentistry department which I'm so excited about because I would love to learn all the medical and science parts of it. I've always been really science oriented but I got bullied at school so I left before doing A levels/highers and ended up going into childcare because I like kids and it seemed like an easy enough career for me but it turned out there was not enough challenge or fulfillment in it for me. I started my childcare apprenticeship and literally flew through the coursework it was far too easy. So I'm really excited to start my job on Tuesday and hopefully this will be more aimed at me, I wish you luck in finding a position too! Just put yourself across as a hardworking, confident and patient individual who would be ideal for the position and you'll be fine

WOW! big congrats on getting the job im still in the process of trying to get a job. I was also bullied in school and left before final exams and went on to do a childcare course which I agree is far too easy!
I've had one interview for a trainee dental nurse and didn't hear nothing back, just got a call for an interview on Thursday but interviews are not my strong point as my mind tends to go blank from nerves.
do you have any tips?
would be a miracle to get the job on the spot! I would be over the moon.

I am interested in the dental nurse interview and understand that there is a test you do before going to college. I am hoping I could receive passed test paper. As I am a qualified dental nurse and would like to redo the course again as do to illness I have forgotten a few things.

I applied to a trainee dental nurse position at Birmingham Dental Hospital and have been shortlisted. Ive been invited to an assessment day and all it says is that there will be 8 different stations with different tasks to complete. Anyone have any idea of what sort of tasks there will be? Any information will be appreciated

I've just been offered a part time 3 days a week position at my local surgery. Will I still get to go to college one day a week and get properly trained up and registered even though I'm only part time? :-o

Hi Chase,

You should still be able to complete your training even though you are part time. The minimum requirement for the NEBDN National Diploma is 14 hours a week. You will definitely need to get registered with a training provider as you cannot work in a dental surgery unless you are registered to study or are already qualified. They may have a training provider in mind already. If not then there are quite a few providers out there, from local colleges to online providers. There are different pros and cons with the different providers. If you need any advice feel free to message me directly.

OMG! I can't believe you guys had to do so much work to get on a course. I am doing online which works well for me. Currently searching for work placements - applying to soooo many practices. I hope I find one soon.

Maybe we can all keep each other motivated.

I am with Harriet Ellis and I can say I am very happy. I am an online student and will be sitting the NEBDN exam in April next year. They have been teaching this course for a long time so know what they are talking about. There are classroom courses too but I like the online option.

Hello there. Well done that you got an interview. That's a start that tells you that you know how to get your foot in the door. You're half way there! Now you need to sell yourself, on what you can bring to their surgery. Age is not a barrier, I am a trainee dental nurse, of 52 years old. What the surgeries are looking for is what can you bring that will benefit them: i.e what transferable skills do you have ( 'hands on skills' like telephone skills, IT , paperwork, cash handling, stock control, keeping things clean and tidy, ability to promote products or a service etc) . Then your 'soft skills' and back them up with real life examples, such as how you managed to put an unsure or nervous person at ease, how you contributed to your last organisation, your interests out if work, try and tailor them to work skills, such as doing a first aid certifucate. State what aspects of dentistry interest you and why to demonstrate commitment, and lastly, start looming for and applying for dental nurse courses as you will need to go to on one anyway, and tell them that you are in the process of this. Best if luck.
