I have this. It's just the way my legs are and i've grown to live with it, and wear skirts and heels and not canre what people think. I used to go to the gym 3 times a week and i completely toned up, but my calves just became more muscly, they didn't magically become slimmer or change shape. As for your ankles i think that's just the way your bones are. xx

The shape of your ankle (and generally the rest of your body) is mainly down to 3 things:

1. muscle size
2. fat
3. genetics (eg. bone structure)

to get THINNER ankles, you lose fat. You can't spot reduce fat (no matter how many people say you can). Losing fat is done by exercise and diet, and cycling is one form of exercise, but the implication was given that it was the only form because it is linked to leg work exclusively. You can row, and as long as you burn just as many calories, you'll lose just as much fat from your ankles as if you cycle.

Swimming is always good for toning your body.

I was going to say - won't exercise make them bigger - as it will be more muscly?
You could wear super high heels if you feel comfortable enough in them. They appear to lengthen your legs, thinning them down slightly.

Although try not to break your ankle in killer heels!

No offence but 30 minutes walking a day isn't a lot of walking.. infact I would say it's a crap amount.

Join a gym and use an exercise bike or treadmill.

But you don't necessarily need to do any of these things for slimmer legs, as this is likely to give you muscles and can make legs appear bigger.

30 minutes brisk walking a day is the recommended amount.

And exercise bikes would chunkify her calves even more!

Unfortunately, a lot of it has to do with bone structure and genetics. So... keep working out, and wear heels sometimes... they can do wonders !

er, i meant 30 minutes of BRISK walking to and from college, on top of of general walking about. most of this is up a hill. it's not a "crap amount"... !

Argh!

No, it won't, it won't build muscle. To build muscle, you wanna aim for maybe 8 reps. Half an hour on an exercise bike is god knows how many reps, but it's a lot more than 8.

I'm not sure why I said "bingo!" to that other quote, maybe because I was half asleep.

In terms of cardio, it really isn't that much, at all.
To eliminate the risk of muscle bulking by exercise, I would suggest lipo-suction, although I havn't seen it done on the legs!

But on a serious point, I don't think there's much you can do (unless they're really meaty), its just how you were born. I'm the opposite, I'm rather sknny, and how ever much I eat I still don't get fat.

god, i don't see the big deal with people putting me down for walking here! i don't walk for cardio, i walk because i am too cheap to get the bus. but it's the recommended amount of exercise a day, so i just thought i'd let you know, so you could recommend me exercises to do on top!
