WATER.

The solution is almost rocket science.

yes

dont drink on an empty stomach
try to alternate between a sofr drink/ juice/ water and an alcoholic drink
choose a drink and try and stick to it - avoid switching between drinking wine and drinking spirits ect especially if your prone to hangovers

drink a big glass of water when you get in and as soon as you wake up in the morning

I was watching "Brainiac" yesterday (slightly tongue in cheek scientific programme) and they did an experiment testing out the different traditional hangover remedies.

The first group had painkillers and other medication I think, the second had a fry up and the third had whatever had made them intoxicated the night before (hair of the dog and all that jazz ). They then wrote scores for how much their heads hurt, how dry their mouths were etc.

The one with the best results was the group which had the fry up. While I'm not sure if a fry up is definitely the best option, I think some food is a good idea. It will help absorb some of the alcohol and get your energy levels up. You should also keep hydrated by drinking lots of water, as you will have lost a lot of liquid through vomiting, or just because alcohol in itself is a diuretic.

Of course, not drinking the night before is a fail safe plan, but then again that is easy for me to say, considering I don't drink myself. So just remember to keep drinking, and pay attention to how you're feeling. If you have a headache, take some painkillers; if you feel dizzy, try resting etc. There might not be one cure which works for everybody.

Sleeping + water

I think as people drink more they get less bad hangovers as their body gets used to it, (Im not saying drink more that was just an observation) I just have lots of water or eat something - I don't really get hangovers that badly, then again I dont get drunk every week, more like every once in a while, I dunno.
If you're exceedingly drunk you'll just have to face up to it - all drugs have lows since they are essentially bad for you. Its your body saying "What the %%%%%%%% did you do that to me for??"

a small amount of food before going out and plenty of water

lots of water when you get back.

works for me usually!

I don't get hangovers, unless I drink wine (which I don't). But my trick to feeling fine in the morning, is to eat cheesy chips on the way home. My friends don't believe it, but everytime I eat chips on the way home, I feel fine in the morning.

Also a fact I learnt the other day is that wine gives you the WORST hangovers!

I find that if I drink lager or cider I have the worst hangovers ever! Spirits are fine for me though
Anyway, no specific cure. Just drink water before you go to bed and take some with you, some people say drinks that replace the salts in your body are alright for that too. One of my mates swears by eating a slice of bread before he goes to bed...don't quite get that one!
Either way, if you drink lots, you just have to sit the hangover out. Either that or don't drink so much!

Drinking lots of water before bed is generally a good idea, but beware the feeling of nausea that loads of quick liquid intake can do to you. Then again, if you feel any kind of nausea it's probably time to suck it up and make it to the bathroom before you throw up on your bedsheets.

I always down a couple of glasses of water & I still have a dry mouth in the morning. Shows how dehydrated you get.

Try organic coconut water, it works for me. You can buy this on ebay or online from Coconut Water Direct Ltd.

this is what works for me:
eat a proper meal before you go out (only eat a small one if your one of those idiots who often drink wayy too much and end up throwing up)
when you get home drink a hot drink but nothing with milk in it and if you think your going to feel really rough the next day have a painkiller as well.
try and sleep for at least 8 hours and when you wake up dont stand up straight away. get up slowly.
in the morning eat some dry toast and wash it down with loads of water.
and you should feel good as new

(as you can see i have a very precise hangover prevention scheme lol)

Why do you need a hangover prevention scheme if you are so anti-whiteying when drunk??? To get properly drunk you at least feel nauseous when you're at your worst!
Also painkillers + alcohol can actually make hangovers worse. And if you ever exceed the stated dose (not that you're not supposed to anyway, but normally taking 3 or 4 wouldn't do you any harm) you are putting yourself at a LOT of risk.

Water when you get in like its been said loads of times, and I always have a piece of bread to soak it all up. Then the next day when I am feeling rough I have McDonalds!

I agree with the cheesy chips! Unless I'm mega wasted, I feel fine the next day if I get some chips on the way home. I also drink a lot of water and some alka seltzer type product before I go bed. I find a can of ice cold coke in the morning makes me feel a lot better too.

you dont have to get exceedingly drunk to the point of throwing up (ok you may feel nauseous) to have a hangover :s-smilie:
and i dont exceed the stated dose of painkillers - i normally have 1 or 2 (and infact i have never taken more than this amount at one time in my life) and they dont make my hangover worse.
so therefore im not "putting myself at a LOT of risk" as you put it

Roll yourself up in the duvet.

Force yourself to drink atleast 3 or 4 glasses of water before you go to bed oh and stay the hell away from anything with Port. The worst hangover i ever had was from drinking "cheeky vimto" and strongbow at a club. Im normally fine if i stay on beer.

Regarding pain killers i think its ok to take 2 * paracatemol and 2 * ibuprofen as they work differently
