Eye Tests

My boyfriend told me today I should have an eye test, totally out of the blue.

Ok, maybe not totally. He went for a check up a few days ago since he already has glasses and I mentioned I'd never had one. My parents kept saying they should take me and my sister before we were too old for a free NHS one... oops too late!

So do you think I do need to go? He's got me really worried that I might need glasses and just haven't noticed. How much does one of these tests cost?

How old are you? If you're 18 or under and still in full time education then it's free.

If you needed glasses, it's highly likely you'd have noticed by now. Do you ever have trouble with your vision when watching TV, looking at blackboards, reading close up or anything?

It's good to be regularly checked anyway, for the health of your eyes as well as to check you don't need glasses.
I'm now 19 and at uni. My sister could still get one free though. Heck knows she probably needs it. 'Can you read that number plate?' 'Where? What car?' She's terrible.

The only time I notice anything is when I'm at the back of the lecture hall. Put it might be because a) the lecturers handwriting is rubbish b) the lecturers handwriting is so small c) bad chalk on a badly wiped board d) dimly lit room and e) I'm usually half asleep. I'm still the one telling everyone else what they've written though...

I think your eye sight is fine, i know the feeling at the back of the lecture hall...especially when the lecturers use like OHP slides! Cannot read them for **** even if you are right in front of them! Wish they would change to powerpoint and interactive white boards!

If you are concerned go to specsavers, i don't know how much it costs, can't imagine it is extortionate.

If you use your computer a lot (check out your post count to see if you do or not lol) it's recommended you get tested every year or so. I know whenever I've had office jobs the company has had to pay for an eye test for me as regular as once a year if I wanted it.

They cost about £15 but very often they do them free on promo...hoping you're half blind and will buy some expensive glasses  If you're not having any problems though I wouldn't be too worried...

might as well have them checked out. i noticed i couldnt read things as clearly as i used to a little while ago, especially since ive just started learning how to drive. i had an eyetest yesterday, only took 20mins and was easy. turns out im slightly short sighted and will need glasses for driving (and i dont think much else). im choosing the frames tomorrow.

it depends, there are obv symptoms. apart from the obvious that i couldnt see as well, i also have been getting constant head aches. they suggest that you have regular eyetests, and so you might as well.

if it runs in the family as well, then that would be another reason to check them out.
I guess I should go just so I know and to put his mind at rest too. He worries about me way too much.

I'll drag him along too. It's his idea so he can sit and be bored for 20mins! Ha.

i have good long range vision and can usually read from a distance but i still wear glasses for short range stuff..... i dont 'need' them but when i wear them its like transforming text from normal to bold, it makes it so much easier..... you amy as well have an eye test if you've never had one.....

the only thing with this is that people musnt get too dependant on them. i know a couple of my friends who have got glasses this year and wear them a lot more than they used to and they have become too dependant on them.

and an eyetest isnt boring, quite fun actually lol  but take him along anyway  lol it seems v quick

chose my frames today though. i think i managed to pick one of the most expensive in the shop. oops lol. never mind.
