Spare tire around middle

I’m not that overweight, I’m 5’6 and about 9 stone. I’m a size 10. I’ve started going to the gym 3 times a week now. Been doing that for a while. I’ve noticed some improvement with my legs seeming more toned. However, I have this ‘spare tire’ around my middle, which I am finding VERY hard to get rid off. It almost looks like a little baby bump (don’t worry I’m not pregnant) I can’t seem to get rid of it. It’s not really bothering me, just getting a little annoying. I have no idea where it’s come from, it just seemed to sneak up on me. Odd I know.

Does anyone know anything that’ll get rid of it?

You sure it's not just muscle? if your concerned about it maybe just work solely on the upper body when you next go to the gym

Muscle, oh I wish :p:
well you don't sound over-weight or anything so it doesn't sound too much you need to worry about, have you got a fittness instructor at all who can guide you.

I am no expert, but I am pretty sure that the only way to get rid of that spare tyre is to burn some fat.

Perhaps focus on CV exercise at the gym, and try and control your diet. Lay off any snacks or high fat foods. Once you have hopefully lost the fat, you can then work your upper body and start toning your stomach a bit.

There are some real exercise experts on this forum, so I will walk away and let them continue with the useful advice.

I;d agree with the bit about foods, check the amount of fat in what you eat, as hayley pointed out the experts should be the fitness instructors at the Gym.

Sit ups won't burn fat, just tone the muscles. Unless she burns the 'spare tyre' she won't achieve the results she's after.

You need to burn fat - try monitoring what you eat by weighing your foods, see how many calories you actually consume a day and go from there by reducing them.

I don't see what all the fuss is about, women are SUPPOSED to have a slight bump/curve there, flat stomachs are unnatural in that respect so just keep going how you are with exercise etc.

You're at a healthy weight and you get enough exercise. I think unless you're really skinny then there's always going to be a slightly flabby tummy, so guess what...you're normal!

Wooo, heart attack time!
I think this spare tyre will go slowly anyway. try and cut down on the amount of alcohol you drink. ever noticed how men who drink loads of beer will be a normal weight everywhere else, but have a random beer belly?
I dont think youre overweight anyway, so i really wouldnt worry.

Oh yes, don't we ALLLLLL have that problem - SO ANNOYING!

Maybe if you had a great diet and did lots of excercise, you'll burn fat and then start to get rid of the tyre!

Ummm yeah, what everyone else said. Lol.

hey hayley, i have almost exactly the same stats as you (5ft6, size 10, 8stone 10) and have a spare tyre too! i reckon its gonna be pretty hard for me to lose weight as i already eat healthily... so i'm just gonna carry on exercising (i do gym 3 times a week too) and carry on with the sit ups.. some people are just shaped like that.

yeah the toning of the muscle is what you need to do i had the same thing where i had a "bump" and i did loads and it toned it up i didnt need to burn the fat to get rid of it, by making the muscle stronger it flatened my stomach out loads
