Scared of Uni

I suppose this goes here, so...

I know I'm probably not the only person that feels like this, but I'm scared of going to university. It's not the fact that I'm going to be away from home, or doing something new, but because I have nearly no confidence at all.
I have this horrible, overwhelming feeling that the people won't like me. I would hate to be alone, especially since I'm moving country to go to uni.
I have friends here, but I'm just worried about moving on, I guess.

Anyone feeling the same way?

I think everyone has that anxiety at some point. I bet everyone who will be your eventual friends/flatmates is thinking exactly the same right now. If you want to PM me i can suggest something which might help.

Trust me, when I say that the number one fear people have before going to university is about wether they will make any friends. Though if you put in the effort I bet by the end of your first day you will have got on well with atleast 3 people.

:hugs: I know how you feel - I've changed schools about 5 times in my life, and I felt nervous everytime. In truth, you don't need to worry about it - everyone will be in the same position as you at uni, and when you get there you'll be having too much fun to feel shy!
ME! I don't wanna grow up.... I don't want to not know anyone.

Going to Uni was one of the scariest but easiest things I've done.
I moved schools and although I already knew some people in the new school it was hard...no one else was in the same sitation.
At Uni most people have moved away from home and it's not very often that you come accross people that know each other from the outstart. In halls it's really easy as the uni will probably put on a social event for you to get to know people.
Helps if you can leave your door open and say hi to anyone that comes past or is moving in. (though don't be disheartened if they don't chat for long at first...there's usually a lot of of stuff to move in and sort out.)

Don't worry about it.

Yes, I feel exactly the same as well. I'm 21, I've been away from the education system for nearly three years, it will be three by the time I start. Aside from worrying about whether I'll fit in, I also have next to no confidence, and have no idea how I'll be able to cope when it comes to cooking my own meals. :frown:

I am concerned about it because I am not the typical student type and am difficult to make friends with!

I'm not going to lie, University can be difficult and in my experience even if you put in a lot of effort and are nice to people, if you fundamentally don't have that much in common with the people you meet it will be hard to make good friends. In the first couple of months, and obviously the first week especially, there will be plenty of opportunities to go out and get to know people you live with/are in a society with, etc. As someone else has said, put the effort in and hopefully you will find friends, but my experience was that everyone was pretty false early on in attempting to get people to like them so be wary. Join clubs and sociteties etc though- one of the best things I've done at uni has been joining the music society and being in a band, so hopefully you have something similar you can get involved with, or maybe try something new?
I feel exactly the same! I find it really hard to start conversations with new people but once they talk to me I'm quite chatty (dunno if that makes sense?) I'm really worried I wont make any friends but everyone else will be in the same position. I could have done my course at my local uni but decided to go further away (Only bout 1hr from home tho1!) because I think it will be a great experience! Can't stick around familiar surroundings all my life, will have to move out someday! I'm quite excited bout it actually!
