why don't you go on one of those taster courses? Like you said, it varies from people to people, so what other people find boring, you might not...

Reply 2

where are these taster courses, how do you apply to them etc?

Reply 3

Personally i find computer science very interesting and enjoyable.

In what ways is it boring? (I'm considering cs as well)

Well it just all seems to be a repeat of what i did in computer at A Level and its just not keeping me interested. The programming module is good because thats what i like doing but things like "Information Systems" , "Introduction To Systems Level" and even AI were pretty much covered in A Level.

Media Computing is ok but it could be made a lot better with much more hands on work in the labs as apposed to boring lectures explaining how to code a website - i just forget about it all as soon as i leave.

And then we have "Social And Proffesional Issues", its the most pathetic module ever and im sure it should be taught to law students and not CS students! We were being taught something in that module the other day and it wasnt even remotley related to CS but i cant remember what it was now

cortez and everyone else: computer science is a bit too much theory but if you did computing at uni the ones that lead to a BEng or MEng rather than the Bsci and MSci, u would i think like it more cos it is nothing like A level computing (maybe a little bit), but because it is an Eng course it is more practical. I think everyone like practical stuff (another maybe here).

Personally I love the theory (atomata, formal languages, logic, development of early computers/history) and logic programming, but hate java! Am not having fun with java at the mo, have an exam in April...

I enjoy that challenge of writing programs too

OMG it is the most boring subject in the world, Some parts are good like the Java and Prolog modues but some just send you to sleep about 3 mins into the lectures. Some old prof babbling on about data structures is incredibly boring, but I like it really

How can you find splay trees boring? They're really cool

Reply 14

Personally, I really enjoy it, but I did sleep through a few systems modelling lectures.

Reply 15

act smiley are you doing CS in cardiff uni?

trees are boring, simple as that. And if you do get excited by data trees then its time to sort your life out to be honest :p:

Reply 16

I dropped out of CS because I found it too boring. Still wanted to do something with computers though so now I'm studying AI which is much more interesting IMO.

Lisp and Prolog were both chucked into one module here (Aspects of AI). I hated Lisp and i dont really like prolog that much either.

those who find it boring, what would you rather of done instead of CS? Still computer related, or something completely different?
