I'm at a total loss as to what financial help I can actually receive on the graduate medicine course.
I've been given a place at Soton (deferred entry starting Sept 2013) on the A101 course. I have an undergraduate degree, an MSc and a PhD. For my undergrad degree, I had the standard student loan i.e. maintenance loan + tuition fee loan.

What are the current arrangements for students starting on the course who have previously received support? I tried calling the medical school but they said they had no idea either! For what I can tell, according to http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/details...lt.aspx?Id=557
... "you are starting your course in the academic year 2012/13, you will have to fund the first £3,375 of your tuition fees in the first year. In the subsequent years of your course, the NHS Bursary scheme will pay £3,375 towards your tuition fees. Throughout the course, eligible students will be able to receive a Student Loan Company loan to cover the difference between £3,375 and the tuition charges of their universities, to a maximum charge of £9,000."

So my questions are - how much is the maintenance loan in the first year (I'd be over 25 so assessed as independent) and how much are the NHS bursaries in years 2,3, and 4 (and do I have to repay these?)

I know this isn't Southampton's website, but Warwick has a pretty comprehensive page on GEM funding:

http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/a...graduate/mbchb

Maintenance loan for 2012/13 is a maximum of £5500 if you're living outside of London:

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Educatio...ance/DG_171539

As for the NHS bursary, it's non-repayable:

http://www.dh.gov.uk/health/2012/07/...-arrangements/

(If it's any comfort, just remember you are not the only person being screwed over by SFE/DoH incompetence. Totally unbelievable )

Re. maintenance loan, it's more than £5500 if the year is over a certain threshold (45 weeks, I think).

I'm getting £6662 maintenance for 2012/13.
