I probably should have done the same, but I opted for 1st class instead  Hopefully it'll arrive on time!

Does anyone know how much it matters whether it gets there on the 10th or not? :erm: Say if it arrived on the Friday or the following Monday - would that be a problem?

Yours will get there, don't worry! They said to me first class would arrive tomorrow or thursday. Besides, they're hardly gonna reject a good applicant for being a day late, if it was?

do you have a copy of it, why don't you scan it into the computer and email it to- just to be safe. Perhaps call them on Thursday to ask whether they've received it or not. And if they haven't email them a copy...? But, should be fine -it's just not guaranteed.

How are people preparing for interview? (I feel like I'm jinxing myself for even writing this :p:) Is anyone re-reading the texts they wrote on their personal statements?

Yep! That's a definite must. Re-read the texts from your statement and think critically about the essay that you submitted. Maybe you should google some sample interview questions just to get a feel of what they ask.

I'm just going to be reading everything possible... But I'm a procrastinator (a sleepy procrastinator) so it's not working too well for me at the moment.

And don't worry, you're not jinxing yourself... everyone who applied needs to prepare just in case.

I'm really not too worried about the interview to be honest. I think its one area of the admissions that you don't need to prepare too much for. Re-reading sounds like a good idea, maybe exploring literature more and practice discussing... Also try to get some mock interviews. but don't make it necessary or at all prioritizing as the other aspects of the admissions process are. If you have an exams like me in January, that's what I'm going to focus on more than interviews.

Really? You obviously have a lot of confidence in your knowledge of the texts you've read, then?

I'm not, not yet. I have two more books to read, which should be read by next Friday, then I begin my re-reading in earnest. You?

Yeah I'm just going to re-read the texts I remember less well first and get through as many as I can. I just started one today. Re-reading always takes me so much longer because I know the book already ::erm:

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. Which texts have you got on your list?

For me, the two Austens and Wuthering Heights are the ones that need attention, three Shakespeare plays (which can be done in two or three days if need be) - but the main text is Christopher Booker, which is seven hundred pages long and requires full attention, so that's going to be a monstrosity. :erm:

read the first 300 pages last night and I think I sort of get it so far. (assume 'thinking i sort of get it' is what Oxford are looking for when it comes to interviews)

well I've read them (except for one, and nor do I plan to). They're not going to ask me to write an essay about them or anything so I don't see it as a productive use of my time really.

Fair enough. My experience last year at interview was that the interview is largely centred around your PS texts, though. :dontknow: (Along with the unseen text they give you). Up to you, of course.

I'm hoping they'll be so dazzled by my Tesco suit they offer me an unconditional place anyway.

Ha, fair play. I also do know that experience differs across colleges.

So you plan on wearing a suit to interview? :colondollar:

Hmmm I hope you're right and that there is not much you can do! But I really feel I do need to reread over some of the texts which I really can't recall that well so I'll probably do that :p:

I would. I know people are busy and re-reading seems like a waste of time. It's only that I really feel I let myself down because I only read my books once and really struggled to put together strong analysis on them when questioned in depth. I really don't want this to happen again, so I'm re-reading twice and getting hold of critical information to give myself the best chance possible of a strong showing.
